New Whey Liquid Protein - Post-Op Use & Beyond

Recommended Posts

I've tried this product before (in grape) when I was weight lifting and I actually liked it. I haven't seen anyone mention it yet. It packs a punch at either 25 or 42 grams of Protein in under 4 ounces, and they are highly portable.

Does anyone use these? I am thinking of stocking up on these for post-op so I can be sure to get my Protein in. Hopefully, I will still like the taste of them.

Also thinking of stocking up on Syntrax nectar - heard it was pretty tasty.

As far as Protein shakes go, I've tried WonderSlim and New Lifestyle (same manufacturer Robard, different franchise name) and Nature's Best Isopure. I liked them all but Wonderslim/New Lifestyle tends to be a bit sugary and ispure gets watery if you let it sit too long in the fridge. I'm a Protein shake fan. Hope I stay that way!

New whey sounds like a good option immediately post op since so many people have trouble drinking enough Fluid. Thanks for the info!

Make sure you check the ingredient list. A lot of the New Whey products aren't actually whey isolate Protein but instead made with collagen protein, which is (according to my dietician anyway) almost completely useless to the human body.

The second ingredient after Water is "Complete Protein Matrix". This contains "Proprietary Blend Of Collagen Protein Isolate, whey Protein Isolate, Casein Protein Isolate". Collegen protein is listed first. This is where most of the protein is coming from. Collegen protein is not bioavailable. It's like drinking Water. It could have .01G of whey, and they can still put it on the label. Ugh!

Here's some hard science behind it:

"The PDCAAS score is used by the World Health Organization (and now the US FDA) to rate the bioavailability and amino acid content of protein sources. The PDCAAS score for collagen protein bioavailability is .08 vs. 1 for whey (on a scale of 0 -1, although occasionally the numbers will be multiplied by 100 and a 0-100 scale utilized )."

Enjoy the Syntrax nectar. That's the good stuff!!

Thank you for the response! Makes a whole lot of sense to me. :)

I tried the Acai berry & it was awful. I still have a Watermelon to try. My stomach totally rejected this stuff. I'm sticking with the Syntrax Nectar brand. My stomach tolerates it better than anything. I drink 1/2 of strawberry Premium Protein first thing in the morning but I can only drink half a container (11oz) over an hour period. After I use all of this up I'm not buying anymore. Container is to large to consume at one sitting.

Seriously, don't stock up. I did, and now I have a lot of Syntrax items and unflavored Protein mix that I'm not using. I just don't like the Syntrax like I thought I would.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
