290 calories for Greek yogurt? EEEEKKKK...

Recommended Posts

HINT: Check the nutrition facts of anything new u might buy. Just finished my Trader Joes Greek Honey Yogurt (8 oz) for a total of 290 cals. Of course, I didn't know till I finished, otherwise I wouldn't have eaten it. Even eating 1/2 woulda been too much for yogurt.

Geez, what the heck r they thinking? To make something that seems so innocent so guilty?

I will be reading labels before I buy next time...

My doctor recommends Carbmaster, which I get from Krogers... which one cup has about 60 calories and minimum carbs!!!!

I like Carbmaster also. We have it at Ralphs on the West Coast. They don't make Grek yogurt, tho, do they?

My fav is the caramel "something". Tastes like dessert. I think there's something like 4 carbs - which is excellent for yogurt

Oh, and something else I just noticed: It only had 8gms of protein! Wow. usually my Greek yogurt ( I usually eat Natures Path at 120 calories for 6 oz) has 15 gms.

How can TJ's even sell this as Greek Yogurt? Seems like it should be in the dessert aisle...

Dannon light n fit Greek yogurt for me too. 80 calories, 12 G Protein. Anything with honey in it is bound to be high calorie. My honey jar says 60 calories in a tbsp.

I buy non-fat plain yogurt, then add Sweet N' Low or stevia + vanilla extract or fruits.

My doctor recommended White Mountain Bulgarian Yogurt. It reminds me of homemade yogurt and no additives which is really hard to come by. I encourage everyone to seek this stuff out.

I buy Chobani or Fage plain Greek yogurt and flavor it with Protein powder....no added sugar AND extra protein...win-win.

Tonight I used Torani SF Syrup to flavor my plain yogurt for the first time. The pumpkin pie syrup was super yummy!

Light & fit Greek is by far my favorite... Creamy without being pasty, yummy flavors, lower carbs than most.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
