Weird symptoms after lapband removal

Recommended Posts

I had my lapband removed 1 week ago. I have hot flashes (not fever) and the roof of my mouth feels real hot, burns when I rub it with my tongue and my right neck gland is slightly swollen which gets much worse if I eat something along with sore throat. anyone else have those weird symptoms? My body is almost reacting allergically to any food I put in my mouth.

Have you checked with your surgeon?

There is potential for this to be a related vagus nerve irritation following surgery.

The neurology of the area is complex and would require clinical evaluation to confirm.

While likely being of temporary issue, it is beyond the forum capacity to make statements of certainty in such matters.

Please keep us posted.

Like Jack says, call your surgeon. Congrats on getting your band removed.

I'm having my band removed in 4 days. 5 days ago I called my Dr. b/c I have a sore throat and have been talking and swallowing a little differently. No pain, but the roof of my throat at times feels as if it's swelling causing me to talk with a little lisp. If not gone by tomorrow, I'll head to the ER b/c I thought it may be a cold coming on, but the cold symptoms left today but the roof of my throat still feels sort of numb at times. The nurse asked if I could still swallow, and the answer is yes but a couple of times liquids have gone down the wrong pipe and I've gotten strangled.

Hi Amelia

I have no idea what is going on and am sorry you had those symptoms.

How are you now?

What did it turn out to be?

I hope everything's resolved.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
