countrygrl1978 26 Posted June 17, 2014 I sit in a desk all day. Literally. I work for IT at a beverage co. My surgery is on the 1st, and I plan on going back on the 7th, and I have the option to work from home if needed. I know everyone recovers differently than others, just looking for some insight. LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted June 17, 2014 I am 67 and I walked and shopped at a mall about 5 days after surgery, for about 4 hours. I felt great. Also, I took one pain pill at home after 24 hours in the hospital. Being at home requires work, lol, like laundry, picking up things, and I will caution you not to lift anything as you will be told. I had pain about 24 hours about 2 weeks postop when I lifted something. I honestly never felt like I had surgery. Some people have more problems, so be kind to yourself and listen to your body. Best of luck!
countrygrl1978 26 Posted June 17, 2014 I don't have to lift anything at work thankfully. And at home I have an office with a couch I would lay on to work from my laptop. Home with cleaning I have my husband as well as a housekeeper. So I'm ok with that. I've already started freezing meals and shopping for the house for about a months worth. onajournee 20 Posted June 17, 2014 I went back after 10 days and it was fine.
madwife2002 110 Posted June 17, 2014 I am taking a month off! I have a very demanding job and I do lots of traveling so it was not recommended I go back to work quickly. It take 6 weeks for the sleeve to heal 90% so no lifting until after that time 1 BabySheldon reacted to this
Terribj 208 Posted June 17, 2014 i was out one week and worked from home week 2. I found it hard week 3 to get my liquid diet in at work. I felt good enough to go back but wish I would have worked from home week 3 just for the full liquids part - much easier at home.
Abbycat 13 Posted June 18, 2014 I had my surgery on a Tuesday afternoon and was back to work the following Monday - desk job with no lifting. I was tired the first week and basically did nothing but rest in the evenings but no problems. GOOD LUCK!
fourthsisfour 14 Posted June 18, 2014 Hubby and I both had VSG in Costa Rica Tuesday, 11/26/13, by Friday we were seeing some sights, and Sunday we flew home to Florida. Monday I was back at work as a nurse in a doctor's office. However, I could only make it for 6 hours a day for a week as the recovery fatigue was incredible. The second week I was able to work full days, however, I did not lift, push wheelchairs or stretchers for six weeks. I did nothing else but go to work, necessary errands, and rest for about a month. It was a concern when weighing pros and cons of surgery how I would handle not working if things didn't go well. We were so fortunate to have successful surgeries and easy recoveries. 1 countrygrl1978 reacted to this

Kindle 8,667 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) I am partners in a mobile vet practice, so I have a very active job...on the road all day, lifting, bending, walking, etc. I went back part time after 7 days and full time at 14. Couldn't lift more than 20 pounds until the third week, though. I would go insane with boredom to take more time than that. And I think keeping busy helped me not wallow in all the postop issues so many people whine about. For me it was life as usual. I was certainly tired, and felt uncomfortable at times, but I'm just used to working no matter how I feel. Hadn't taken a "sick day" in over 4 years. Worked through bronchitis and the flu and every other ache or pain I ever had. My partner never even missed a beat through her viral pericarditis. Owning your own business means no work = no income, so we just suck it up and do our jobs no matter what. Good luck! You should do fine. cls8402 26 Posted June 18, 2014 I took a week off work. I had my surgery on a Monday, and returned the following Monday. I also have a desk job, so I sit for almost 10 hours a day. When I was getting super tired sometimes I'd set the timer on my phone for 15 minutes and go close my eyes in the car. It is refreshing! Also, only my boss and one co-worker know I had surgery- to this day! I moved a little slower, but not much! Best of luck to you! 1 countrygrl1978 reacted to this
