The morning of my surgery right before they took me into the room I cried. I think it was tears of fear and joy. So far I'm happy with my decision. I should be back to work Wednesday and I'm pretty excited. I still experience gas pains and I'm still scared to lay flat lol. I started thick liquids today. I was only able to have 5 oz of Protein Shake at a time. I've also been doing my daily 3" min walks. I can't get a hold of my nutritionist so I was wondering what else could I have on this thick liquid stage. Also I am documenting my journey on Instagram so if you are interested it's @thebandedlife

I looked forward to my cream of chicken or golden mushroom Soup mixed with chicken flavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury every night. the cream of chicken gave me some gas, so i mostly stuck to the golden mushroom and just didnt eat the mushrooms. you could try egg drop Soup as well?

All the chicken broths I tried were way too salty for me, but I loved Campbells chicken noodle Soup or vegetable Soups, blended. Also I took a little tuna, blended it with mayo and a little Pickle Juice. Sounds gross but I love tuna and it gave me a little Protein. Hmmmm , what else ? Swiss miss hot cocoa, thinned out greek yogurt, sf popsiscles, etc. I dont remember having any problems laying flat, went back to work a week later, its been smooth sailing ever since ! Hope all goes well for you too ! Good luck !

Hey there, congratulations! I liked Soups, too -- there's a no-dairy creamy brand called Imagine soups that come in a carton in the regular grocery store -- I liked the potato leek a lot, though I'd only have a little. There are lots of flavors. And my surgeon okayed egg drop Soup. I even made it myself, fun! Loved my half a Popsicle here and there. I got MiniteMaid soft frozen lemonade ones and they were yummy, no artificial sweeteners. I was having so little calories it didn't matter if I had a little sugar. I couldn't do Protein Shakes -- maybe burned out in them from pre-op or just couldn't take the thickness. I had no Protein or calorie goals during this time -- just having something if hungry but otherwise not, and learning to listen for hunger. That took me a while. Good luck with all that is ahead -- very exciting!

Thank you everyone! I will search some Soups you suggested. Even though the Protein Shakes fill me, I want to switch it up. It gets boring fast lol

Did anyone have oatmeal or cream of wheat during this stage?

No. Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat are mushies. They are for the next stage. Hang in there. Once you progress to mushies, you may have them. :)

In my post op diet sheet, watered cream of wheat is included as the thick liquid stage. I'll have to double check

If your diet sheet says that watered Cream of Wheat is okay for you to have then go for it. :D My diet sheet said that Cream of Wheat was a mushie. ;) As I said earlier, each practice has a different diet and progression, so just go with whatever instructions you were given. :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
