First day back to work after surgery

Recommended Posts

Okay was my first day back to work today. Although I was off work for 4.5 weeks and thought I had it all worked out. My plans crumbled today. I packed my lunch and Snacks, got to work to find out I was scheduled for a day of meetings and a working lunch meeting. Headed off to the meetings and promptly left my prepared food in the office fridge. At least I remembered to bring my Water bottle. During the lunch meeting I totally put aside the small bites, mindful eating, chew chew chew and chew some more for the take a bite of dry chicken barely chew and swallow....yikes I paid for that bite for the next two hours. The pain in my chest was horrible, eyes watering, foamies etc..thank god I didn't throw up though

Note to self ..... Follow the plan and pay attention to what and how you eat. Plus remember nothing is worth dry chicken!

Hey, fellow Albertan. Today was my first crazy day at work too. My surgery was 4 weeks ago. I went back part time after 2 weeks, mostly because I was bored. My downfall was coffee. It was Decaf but I paid for it. Tonight, I'm exhausted. I'm realizing how much I used calories to fuel my very busy life. Tomorrow is another day, live and learn. Skip the coffee and remember to bring some herbal tea.

Hey Happygomom, yes it's so noticeable now that I too used food and coffee to get me through the days pre op. Here's to the better days! Today, was a great work and food day. I can see this totally working now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
