So I have my first visit with the doctor tomorrow. I've been on the road for 2 months and I go back and forth. I am hoping that this visit will help me remain focused. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ask lots of questions. Don't leave with out being satisfied that you have the answers you need. Also take lots of notes. Good luck!

I have my first surgeon visit on July 7. I have been on this road since April. I have done Nut and Pysch evals. I also have done 4 of the 10 support groups and supposed to start my 4 week diet in Aug and surgery in Sept. I am so ready just know that with all the time and work you have to put into this that obviously it is something you feel you were ready for and yes just make sure you ask all the questions you need to. One thing I have learned is that all the advice is good but each person situation and outcome varies significantly.

Thank you for the comments. It is a lot easier to get through things with the support of others doing the same. I have an issue with my confidence. I'm afraid of failure. I'm not sure how to do it, but I am going to give it my best shot. I keep telling myself that my body deserves me to try.

I wish you the best of luck with your visit. I hope everything went well. We are at a similar point.

I researched as much as I could before making the decision. I have my first visit with the surgeon on June 20, 2014. I've finished my eight classes required by my insurance and I have my referral so this is the start of the next leg. I'm very excited to take the next step.

So I had the appointment and I am extremely satisfied. What he lacks in bedside manner, he makes up for in knowledge and push to get it done right. I only had a few questions and he answered them thoroughly. The staff are the real workers in the process and they were all lovely. I think I will have surgery late November early December. So I have the next several months to get my act together.

I'm glad the visit worked out well. My visit was also very good, the staff was so friendly and the doctor was very informative and kind. I'm hoping I will be done with all the testing by the end of next month so I can get a surgery date.

Sounds like you will have plenty of time to practice new eating techniques, be able to give up soda and coffee (if you drink it) and just generally prepare yourself for surgery. Keep pushing!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
