7 months banded! HAVING SCARY THOUGHTS!

Recommended Posts

It's scary as I've been banded for 7 months now and have lost 2-1/2 stone. Quite happy but suddenly today morning it dawned on me that I have a foreign object in my body which dnt know how long it can last in my body. Would it corrode?? I'm 29 and thinking will it last thru out my life.. I know I shud have thought of this before surgery but before it's jus about shifting the weight and when uve tried everything and having three children u do whatever u can!

Has anyone ever had these thoughts? How have u dealt with them? I've spoken to the nurses at the place I was banded and they've sed there had theirs in for like 10 years no problem. As long u luk after urself it's meant to stay in for life.. :/

Plastic doesn't corrode.

I've always told myself that if I can get 7+ years out of my band I'd be happy. I'd go for another one if it should fail and my stomach would allow it.

BTW-Re: Foreign objects?

Dental implants

Fillings

Breast Implants

Heart stints

Total knee replacements

Anterior Cruciate replacements(cadavers?)

Metallic screws and bands for broken limbs and spinal fusions

Pacemakers

And the list goes on and on. So, foreign objects within our bodies is quite normal and will happen to almost everyone.

Thank you for your reply. I guess that's true however I've heard so many people talk on having problems and they need to have em removed. But follow the rules n there shudnt be a problem I guess. Thanks for taking time to reply it has reassured me. :)

I figure by the time anything made need replacing, science will have new amazing solutions. Look at laparoscopic surgery and what an advance that is. Pretty amazing.

I saw this in Facebook today: worrying is like praying for bad things to happen.

I can be a bit of a worrier -- not about my band, I feel great about that -- but kids, family, etc. I am going to try not to worry. Let's be on vacation from fear and worrying and just enjoy.

The studies show about 5% will have their bands removed. Some of the complications such as slips, dilation and erosion can occur with the band. I guess you could say these are failed bands or banded patients. There are also failed sleeves and bypasses but they have nothing to be removed so most of them go quietly with their lives. Many people who have their bands removed revise to a sleeve or bypass and that's the silver lining with the band.

You who might worry about such, don't worry, keep on track, but be very careful, Don't ever puke, and NEVER overeat because that happens. At least for me, and like I said cant be fixed. So keep doing what you are doing and just very careful. I knew a band could slip for those reasons from literature/Dr, but no one tells you when it does there is nothing that can be done. I still would have done it and will never be sorry I did, but I know many who have had not good experiences too, just diff than mine. This is a great place for you all to share and learn, and I probly should not have posted what I did, but people should be aware. God Bless all

Ah all I have to say is don't go looking for trouble because you will usually find it.

Just go with it enjoy the weight loss, take care of yourself and your band, live your life and be happy!!

Life in general is just too short to be worrying about it, if a problem arises deal with it then and don't worry. We have enough saggy skin we don't want to add wrinkles and worry lines to it :)

LisaCaron, I don't know if you are speaking to me, but if so you misunderstood, I have no weight loss anymore.

Ajit, :) you are so welcome, write me anytime if I can help, I will only encourage anyone, but just say be careful because by the time I found out, I had really started gaining. Problem is I have no problem w sugar so that's the PROBLEM. I never touched it while doing good on my weight. :)

Nope, addressing the issue if worrying about a foreign object in your body.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
