Surgery scheduled for July 14. Wondering how long until I will be able to exercise.....like heart rate up, sweating exercising? My goal is to run a 10 min mile and I'm motivated to get there!

For easing into exercise you will most likely have to wait three to four weeks because you can't lift anything over 5 lbs until then.

You can do some walking everyday after surgery but no running. To jarring.

What have said is what was told to me by my surgeon.

Your surgeon might have different rules.

Majority of people on this site would say the same thing about exercising.

Good luck with surgery.

I had to wait 10 weeks before I could lift weights, swim, and (at the time) try running. I walked as much as I could during those ten weeks. I also did light stretching and I played Wii Sports.

I was able to do everything after 4 weeks.

Your surgeon will be able to give you a time frame. Remember that you will be having major abdominal surgery, so expect that lifting may be restricted by your surgeon. I will put on exercise restriction for about 4 weeks, including lifting over 40lbs. Good luck to you.

I was taking Spinning (or cycle) class before surgery. They told me I could go back to that after 2 weeks. That's heart rate up, sweating like crazy. However, everyone is different and you may not feel like really getting into some serious exercise. The day of your surgery you are up and walking the hospital. So, walking you definitely do from the beginning. It's really up to you and your surgeon. Good Luck!

I was cleared at week 4 but did not have the energy or stamina to do much of anything until week 8. Just an example of how different our recovery is from one person to another.

I'm 6 weeks out and am FINALLY able to work out. My energy has finally come back. I took my recovery 1 day at a time. Some days were ok and others I could barley get out of bed. Just listen to your body. Best of luck. Healing is a process.

Do you think it was something you did or ate differently that triggered your energy to come back, or do you think maybe the after effects of anesthesia just finally wore off?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
