Fat Acceptance, your thoughts.

Recommended Posts

I think we all know people, even ourselves, who ate right and exercised and could never keep the weight off.

I don't think that obese people should be discriminated against. I think that everyone should be treated the same.

But to say that its wrong for people to try to lose weight is just crazy. I was surfing through a lot of fat acceptance and HAES blogs, and there's a lot of crazy there. There's also a lot of people who are just tired of fighting and tired of not losing and have given up.

Hey surgery isn't for everyone. We all have choices to make. If someone prefers to stay obese and just accept it rather than have surgery who am I to judge?

It's the black and white thinkers who I think are stuck in Cray Cray.

I believe in body acceptance rather than fat acceptance. I believe any one big or small deserves to be happy in the skin they are in. I had this surgery to become healthy not to get approval from society on how I look. This topic is interesting to me, because it took years for me to fully accept this is me heavy or not. I was bullied all through school, and partially into my adult life. I can't look at a stranger and think they should loose weight, that's not fair at all. What I actually do is look at food that I used to order or make and think "wow, I can't believe I made those choices. I believe fat acceptance to begin with just something to get people who are overweight and obese to love themselves no matter what. Which everybody needs to do regardless if you are obese. Bullying needs to stop, that so called "kids will be kids" I have deep emotional scars from those kids and adults making my life pure hell.I love myself before having this surgery, and in love with myself even more now because I am becoming healthy.

i think the original point was its not okay to treat someone like a piece of garbage based on being overweight. you would not treat a smoker like they didnt have a right to live just because they were still smoking would you?

but its not just about being fat, its appearance.. there are a lot of angry, hateful people out there. did you hear about the 3 year old who was asked to leave KFC because the scars on her face from being mauled by 3 pit bulls were "scaring" the customers?

as a species, we have a lot of growing to do. ????

I watched my dad commit slow suicide by knife and fork. He died of Morbid Obesity at 54 when I was 13 years old. I had been overweight to obese my entire life and managed to remain fairly healthy (stats wise) in spite of it until I hit 40. Then started the high blood pressure, (3 meds) the cholesterol (1 med) and the asthma (4 meds). My sugars had me in borderline diabetic territory and it hurt to move. I could not and would not accept that this was to be my life, so at 47, I took what some believe is a drastic step, having 85% of my stomach removed and changed my life forever. No more high blood pressure, high cholesterol or asthma. Normal sugars. The only prescription I take now is my post-op prescribed PPI. I LIKE to exercise. I LIKE to socialize. I have more energy and confidence than I ever thought possible! I didn't "accept" the health consequences of the life I was leading and got the help I needed to be healthy. No different than treating any other health condition as far as I'm concerned.

I think what other people do with their bodies is mostly none of my damn business. People who are overweight shouldn't be treated differently just because they're fat. We shouldn't body shame and judge other people. You never know what someone else is going through. This goes for both sides of the argument. I won't judge you for being over weight, don't judge me for having WLS.

With that being said, we need to acknowledge that "healthily at every size" isn't really a real thing. You can be healthy and 100lbs over weight at 22 but it will catch up with you eventually. By 22 I was on blood pressure medicine and by the time I had my WLS I was probably well on my way to diabetes. Maybe you Can be 30-40lbs over weight and be active and eat well and be healthy but if you're morbidly obese, it doesn't matter if you do eat well and are active, it's going to catch up to you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
