I do a variation of it every 6-8 weeks....But I am a bander, so I know why and what results I am looking to achieve...

I would ask, for what reason do you feel you need to stay off solid foods for a few days????

My weight loss has pretty much come to a halt for the past few months. I'm a little over a year out. But I would still like to lose 15-20 more pounds. So I'm hoping this will jump start a little more weight loss and also help me regain some restriction in my sleeve.

@b-52. I was wondering when you do this how long do you do it for?

Can you elaborate on this some more? What is this and what is the goal. I'm intrigued.

The 'Pouch test' has been mentioned in my support group by the psychiatrist who runs it. It's mentioned as a tool to reassure, get back on track or back to basics, or break a stall, because it can do all these things. It reassures people that, yes, their pouch is still small and working correctly. It helps you get back to the basics and can help you get out of bad eating habits by taking you through all the phases of your initial post-op diet. It can help break a stall by sort of 'resetting' your body so it begins losing again (and your mind by mentally starting over). It is harmless (even my PA has mentioned it as a tool) and can have great benefits to those who try it. Do a search of the 5 day pouch test to get the specifics.

I am on day 3 of the pouch test. The first two days of liquid diet were a lot harder than I remember the liquid diet being initially. I was a little light headed and weak by the end of day two. But this morning starts soft Protein so I had a hard boiled egg for Breakfast and I definitely feel more restriction in my sleeve today. And the best part, I'm already down 3 pounds!

I see that you did this about a month ago. I am starting Day 1 today. This is the first time that I'm trying it. I had my surgery a little over a year and a half ago. I'm half way to goal. I'm hoping this will lend to the feeling of restriction & eliminate a couple of bad habits that I've picked up. Were you able to stick through the 5 days? Did it help you get a feeling of more restriction back? Did it really help jump weight loss & reset your eating? I would love any feedback as I'm already dreading just 5 days & am so hoping that it's worth it. Thanks!

I did make it through all 5 days and I did lose a couple pounds. I'm at 165 and a size 6 right now. When I started the test I was about 167 and I dropped to 163. But I'm sticking now at about 165 so I'm trying to cut carbs out to lose a little more. I do feel like some of my restriction returned and it helped me to remember exactly how to use this tool. I recommend it but make sure you get enough calories in so you're not too light headed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
