I'm on my 6 month journey to gastric bypass surgery. Hopefully in November. I have my second dietician appt. at the end of June. I'm getting more and more excited about it and not too bummed about waiting 6 months because of insurance. I need the time to learn to eat slower and get myself on an exercise path and have a positive attitude toward that. I got an app called Eat Slower with a timer for 45 seconds for each bite. Its neat and as helped me slow down.

The one thing I struggle with and not sure if others struggled when they made their decision for surgery is the fact that you won't get to eat your "favorite" foods anymore. And your mind tells you won't get this for a long time so I have one last indulgence. Any suggestions to get rid of that thinking?

I've been so inspired by so many of the member's success on this website. It certainly is a motivator. I haven't told anyone but my husband and kids about having the surgery. Not too ready for that yet as I know I will get a lot of negativity from some people. In time, I will feel more comfortable, just not now.

Take your time telling people. I did not share it with many until I had my surgery date about three weeks before my RNY.

By that point you are really committed and any negative comments just fly by. At least they did for me. As to favorite foods, by six months you will be able to eat probably 80% of them. Usually only one or two small bites, but at least a little. Even Desserts and candy, pizza. You are not necessarily giving them up for life, just for the next several months. Good luck! I am approaching a year, and it has been life changing in every way!

You must remember that sugary foods and fatty foods can have an adverse effect with gastric bypass.

Try finding healthy alternatives to these things and you will be happier in the end IMO.

I don't have any fried foods and for sweet things I have sugar free pudding or sugar free Popsicles.

I also buy Quest Protein Bars to first help get in my Protein but also because they are sweet, come in many flavors and the satisfy me very well.

For my Protein Shakes I kick them up a notch with sugar free Torani syrups which come in a multitude of flavors. This also will help with your sweet tooth.

Now these are suggestions and you have to be the judge and jury of what you do.

No one can decide but you of how you are going to follow what your surgeon and nutritionist program they set up for you.

Good luck with your future surgery.

I'm trying to find non-food ways to comfort, reward, etc. myself. One of the things I love is sitting down with a new magazine. Candlelight baths might be good too. Any other ideas?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
