Hi all, don't worry this is not going to be a whinge this time........... Just would appreciate some advice. Just started on puree stage. Think I may have had too much today because I felt hungry. Still well within 1000 calories but it's worried me slightly that I felt hungry. Is this normal at a couple of weeks post op. Not starving but definitely peckish. Has anyone else felt this. Thank you.

Could be acid...this often feels like hunger when you are early postop. PPI's or antacids could help. I was on 40mg Omeprazole, but still took Maalox when my tummy would feel hollow and hungry. But in all honestly, after 4 months my hunger came back full force and I have to eat every 3-4 hours. Fortunately a small amount of Protein fills me up quick.

There are no guarantees that hunger is eliminated. Most post experience diminished hunger but it never goes away completely. Just try to differentiate true hunger versus head hunger, which is easier said than done.

I was hungry after surgery. I have found that if I follow the rules on eating hunger retreats 99% of the time. I control it by time between meals. I eat 3 meals aday and have 2 Snacks. Basically I eat every 3 hours. I hold to the rule of no drinking for at least 1 hour after eating. Seems to be working. coffee helps me between meals.

I found that if I am truly hungry, I can eat anything and I will be satisfied. If it's more of a "I really feel like eating.....(fill in the blank)" it's probably head hunger.

I feel hungry...but it's only been 2 weeks since my sleeve and I haven't figured out how to listen to my body just yet. Some of the feelings I think are just normal post op things like gas, reflux, and the such.

Thank you all for you replies. As a woman of a certain age my Tom is very erratic and I discovered last night that it was here again. It fits as I was craving sweet things yesterday. I think you have all got the right answers. I am new to this and can't read my body signals yet. Also I still get head hunger as my domestic situation is difficult. I do take lanzoprazole. Also I think I need to eat more regularly. Our eating pattern is very irregular and my husband eats very little, so I was in the habbit of bingeing and grazing or going hours between meals. I really need to discipline myself.

Thank you all for your help, and good luck to you all with your continued weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
