CherylNash 1 Posted June 15, 2014 Does anyone know the true reason some Drs. want you on a liquid diet a week before or 2 or 3 days before surgery? My sleeve is scheduled for Tues, June 17th. A new life!
sotabee 15 Posted June 15, 2014 Not sure why liquid diet varies so much, mine is only five days prior to surgey.
mrshall617 10 Posted June 15, 2014 Mine is 7 days and my nurse practitioner explained that it was to shrink the liver in order to make it easier for the surgeon to have a clear path to the stomach during surgery. I don't know why the protocols vary so much from one doc to the next though.... 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
TonyaNKy 79 Posted June 15, 2014 It's to shrink the liver to get easier access to the stomach. My pre-op diet was all you can eat meats, cheese and nuts. I don't understand the point of a liquid diet as long as you're not eating carbs or sugar. Sugar and carbs is what makes the liver swell. 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
