Confused about what to bring to hospital

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My surgery is tomorrow - Yikes! Yay!

My husband is disabled and won't be with me. My parents will come the day of, and stay until I'm out of surgery, but then a friend will be the one to pick me up when I'm released a day or two later.

So I won't have one person to hold onto my things and I'm getting confused about what I need...

- I've been told I need to pay my portion of the bill when I check in, so I need a credit card and ID I assume, but then I'm told not to have that with me (aargh); I'll also need money to get home - my friend is picking me up, but I'm in NYC - we'll be taking a taxi and I want to pay for it

I'll be at NYU Langone.. anyone with a similar situation? Any advice? Did you not just bring your purse and a small bag with your things? iPad?

I appreciate any advice - I thought I'd thought everything through, and now getting flustered trying to figure this out.

I did not have anyone waiting for me at the hospital, so I had to bring my things. They were put in a locker for me when I went into surgery. I was told during pre admission testing that I shouldn't bring anything, but I had no choice. I packed a bag and I had to bring my CPAP machine. Do you have a bag or backpack that you can lock the zipper? That would give you the peace of mind that your wallet is secure.

I wish you the best!

Thanks ForGracieGirl!

A backpack with a lock is such a great idea, but not sure I'll have time to find one today - but I will look! I think I'll just have to play it by ear and hope for the best - I'm sure it will work out.

Hello thesuse. I was banded at NYU and by Dr. Ren. Bring your credit card and any ID you need along with some cash if you want. Or pay the cab with your credit card if you don't want to bring cash. They will lock it all up for you when you are registered. Don't worry about that. Can I ask why you are staying a day or two? I stayed overnight but I had mobility issues and they wanted to make sure I could walk after the surgery so they kept me and I walked with the nurses assisting me.

@@gowalking - thanks! That's a relief that they can hold my cards and stuff. I thought so, but I can't call and ask questions today. For sleeve Dr. Ren said it's 1-2 nights stay, usually two. Since my time isn't until 4pm I am assuming probably 2 nights. They have to do a leak test before releasing people. You're right about using CC for taxi - I'm just not used to going anywhere without a little cash! :)

You should take gas x strips for the gas post op. If your parents will be with you have them hold your bag until you are in your room. Bring a small water bottle to sip on on your way home.

Just bring yourself, and a phone, and toiletries, that's basically all you need. I brought a change of clothes, new nightie, ended up staying in the hospital gown, you won't feel up to much for the first few days anyway, and I didn't even feel much like talking, just took the meds, and slept, did what I had to do, and went home. Good luck, and bless you!

Thank you all!! Appreciate the tips, suggestions and support! I've been balancing nervous and excited for a while and today became all about nervous! But I'm calming down and feeling more ready. Thanks - and wishing all the others getting sleeved this week the best as well!

wishing you the very best of luck!

another option to avoid carrying cash would be to run to your friend's place tonight and take some cash to them NOW to cover cab fare!

ahh...OK. didn't realize you were being sleeved. that makes more sense now. I was banded and it's less invasive....which means less time in the hospital.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
