How long till you had a BM post op?

Recommended Posts

I used to go to the bathroom (#2) at least once a day, usually right when I woke up. I took pride in being very regular. Now post op I use the bathroom about every 3 days. My nut has told me I'm eating about a third of what I use to and that I won't have a bowel movement every day. She said I could take a stool softener with a laxative if I wanted and to take milk of mag if I go longer than my new norm of 3 days.

From the first day of surgery to day 6, every time I had gas, I'd run to the toilet... liquid in = liquid out six to eight times a day... I was getting raw and frankly feared expelling any gas, not knowing if I'd make a mess... FINALLY by day 8, I stopped going. Now on day 10, I'm done with all that and now looking forward to more normal in that dept.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
