I am still Pre-Op, But I also have my gallbladder removed in 2008 and would be interested if anyone has had any issues with the sleeve post-gallbladder removal.

Had my gallbladder out 20 yrs ago (at age 25), 24 yrs before my sleeve revision last year. I had to take a few stool softeners after surgery, as things weren't moving along as they should have been.

then again, I never did have a problem with diarrhea after my gallbladder surgery. The only problem I had was the inability to eat red meat for about a year. The smell made my stomach turn. Then the first bite of a burger and thats all she wrote...

I guess u were probly asking those that have recently gotten their gallbladders out tho, huh? Oh well. Just my .02...

Good luck!

I had gall bladder removed in 2005, and sleeve in March. No issues. I have heard a number of people need gall bladder removed after surgery due to rapid weight loss causing gall stones, so I was glad that I didn't have to worry about that. I had read many posts about issues with the gas pain due to the air they pump in your abdomen for the surgery. My thinking is they would have done something similar for the gall bladder surgery and I didn't remember any issues with trapped gas, and I didn't have any problems with the sleeve surgery with gas. Except for the additional issues with drinking and eating, my pain levels and recovery were very similar to the gall bladder surgery.

Since having my gallbladder out I was having diarrhea so bad the dr put me on meds to stop and I still take today. Just wondering how it would affect everything already going on! Just don't want it to be a disaster that I regret because it's so permanent! Having second thoughts ????

I too worry about that. I had my gallbladder out in 1996 and I still get what I think is comparable to dumping syndrome. I haven't had surgery yet either and I am afraid it will get worse too. With sleeve you typically don't get dumping. I am still undecided if I want bypass or sleeve. I really need to hurry up and decide I am submitting to insurance on Wed.

My surgeon told me bypass would be did horrible for me with these symptoms! Have u talked to your surgeon about it. Mine told me that the sleeve shouldn't make it worse but I'm still worried.

My surgeon retired out of the blue in the middle of my 6 month supervised diet. He was very pro bypass and that was what I was set on going in. Then I went to another surgeon's seminar and he was very pro sleeve. There were things I did not like about that surgeon be he did open my eyes to the sleeve. So the program that I originally started going through found a new surgeon and I decided to stick it out with them. I am glad I did. They are a great staff. I have not met the surgeon yet. But I have had heard lots of good stuff about her. I had colon cancer last year so I have lots of questions to go over with her to see what is the best option for me.

i talked with my surgeon about this before surgery and he was like...."nope, usually its Constipation that people have trouble with." boy was he right! though my surgery was 10 years before my sleeve surgery. however, your BMs when you are on the liquid diet are not likely to be normal. like everyone else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
