Bitter Sweet

Recommended Posts

Hello Bariatric team!

I recently had the bariatric sleeve procedure on April 1st of 2014. It's has been bitter sweet experience so far.

I am currently down 90 lbs, went from a 430 lb bull to a 340 lb Ox so far lol. Thankfully being a personal trainer and a health nut in the past once upon a time in my 20s, My experience helped assist with immense weight loss with in a short period. I am 35 years young and looking forward to becoming fit (again) as I was 6-7 years ago.

I eat well and very clean, I use the rest room fine with no complications go to the gym and workout daily, rocking the house. I feel great! ....... (EXCEPT) I have had a lot of pain healing since the surgery, I was in such pain trying healing, Dr said I am just am one of those who is healing differently with pain and it happens ???

So I went to the Dr. And they checked everything from A-Z admitting myself to the hospital due to the sever pains, and nothing was wrong with me and they did not see any negative signs , "thank God" but I am still having stomach pains and I don't know why, two and half months later I still have this awkward pain on my left side and near the stomach area. I called the Dr and he wants a to check my blood AGAIN?? My question is, has anyone had the same experience or understand what it is may be going through!?

Having pain 2 1/2 months out doesn't sound right! If I were in your shoes, I'd get a 2nd opinion from a different doctor.

I would have a CT scan done....They can see what is going on when they do one of those..Trust me i have had plenty lately because of pain in my left side...

Better to be safe then sorry. I say!

And by the way..Stop the self degrading name calling..There are others on this forum who weighed in at more then you and they may take it personally that you are calling yourself names.....K

Your a human being who is fighting the same fight as the rest of us. Be kind to yourself and remember that self abuse is self sabotage.....Keep yourself positive...As I think you are in it to win it! :)

Hey that is great that you are tough as nails...And as a compliment..I see your point. I was just worried that you were not being kind to yourself. We take one abuse and turn it into another some times. Or we tend to insult ourselves before someone else gets the chance. It is all part of the brain retraining we go through....

I am so happy to see such strength and zeal for the new you that is going to get there and be there for life....All the best to you.

You got this....But we are here if you need us anytime......... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
