Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

I have been waiting all morning for the Doctor's Office to call me with the exact date, but I am still waiting. UGH! Soooooo.........I guess I will tell you about it.

Yesterday was my visit, and I absolutely loved Dr. Provost and his whole office. I was there for 2 1/2 hours and could have been longer if I wanted to. They took time with me, they didn't rush me or anything. I saw the device that would be going in me, and we talked about hospitals and food too. I met with the dietitian, the billing director and the head nurse. Each person came into my room one at at ime and sat until I didn't have any more questions. I was told so much info, I can't even remember it all. Anyway my SURGERY will either be October 18 or 28th . They are trying to do the October 18 so that is why I am waiting on the call.

I am anxious, excited, and nervous. I want to thank each of you for all your help and encouragement. I have visited many boards since I have been searching the surgery, and I can tell you that none even compare to this one.

Thanks again!

Betty

WOW! That is great! It will be here real soon. Your doctor's office sounds wonderful.

Now, do something for me.....don't get on your bike for a month after surgery. OK? I keep trying to think what could cause me band problems and I wonder if the vibrations (or my wreck) could cause trouble. Since it's winter anyway, just wait until it's all healed up. Okay? I feel better now. :)

You will be so glad you did this. I still love my band. It took me a few weeks to actually LOVE it. But then, I'm a weenie. So glad you are in the countdown phase!

I really am excited! I can't wait!

Marie - I called and she had a message on her phone that said she would not be able to answer any calls or make any till after 4:00 today, so I e-mailed her and hopefully will hear back from her later.

Becky - I ask the Doctor when I was in there how long before I could ride and he said after no more pain meds and no soreness, about 7-10 days. We'll see, it might be getting cold then anyway. How bad was your accident? Did you feel like you hurt something when you did it? I sure don't want to chance that.

I waited about 2 and 1/2 weeks before I rode the Harley by myself (for more than a 15-30 minute ride). My port area was still really tender and holding the handle bars too long was uncomfortable. Even sometimes now I wait for several days after a fill if it was not an easy poke or takes several pokes. But that doesn't stop me from riding on the back of dear hubby's. I can't wait to hear your actual day. I actually feel that I ride much better with the weight loss.

Darcy - I am sitting here on pins and needles waiting for that call! I am beginning to wonder if they called my house. Now I am anxious to get home to see. I honestly think they are in that conference and I might not hear until tomorrow. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

Carol - It really shocked me when he said that, I actually thought it would be much longer. I won't ride at all if it hurts me. I too can get on hubby's and ride. I lost 20 pounds as of now, and it was amazing to me how different I sat in the seat. I can't imagine it when I lose even more. Thanks for the info, it means a lot to me to have people advise me of the things I need to watch for or do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
