How's everything going? My name is Rashad and I live in Florida. My wife, son, and I are moving to Fort Worth in June. I browsed these forums a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to decide whether or not to get the band. I decided I'd do it. Mine is scheduled for June 8, 2007 with Dr. Rodriguez in Mexico. I am very excited, just ready to get it over with. I am looking forward to my "new" life.

Any pointers? How has everyone here done with their Lap-Band? Do you really think it was the way to go?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome Rashad! I'm glad to hear that you have decided to take a big step to improve your life! What better gift can you give your son then to be there for him and help him grow into a fine young man? The risks involved with obesity are scary but lapband is a great tool to help you beat that!

My advice, study everything you can about it. Read up and go into this knowing as much as you can, it will help. There is a wealth of info here as well as wonderful people ready to support and help you! I can't begin to tell you the way the people here have helped me. They are the best!

I have done very well with my band! It is allowing me to do something that I have never been able to do on my own. Was it the way to go? For me, absolutely! I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Best of luck to you as you begin this new chapter in your life! Keep us posted on how everything is going.

Welcome Rashad,

Happy that you are doing some research about banding.

I am very happy with my band.

This is the first time in my life that I reached my goal and was able to wear my new small size clothes for more than 4 or 5 days. I would always quit my diet when I reached my goal and start eating like before. Stupid but that is what I always did.

It dawned at about 50 lbs that there would be no going off the diet and it made me happy .

I get FULL with my wonderful band.

Start trying to walk 7 mins away and 7 minutes back whereever you are. Don't worry about people staring at you.

Best wishes,

edie

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
