Gall bladder removal...soon!

Recommended Posts

I am at the ER with horrible abdominal pains. I came here because my doctor can't see me till next week so she told me to go here and at least get a GI cocktail and get some tests. Well the results of the tests is I have multiple gallstones and some in my bile duct and my liver levels are high. So they admitted me and are removing my gall bladder soon! I am so relieved to finally have an answer to why I'm in so much pain. Hopefully this will help ease my back pain too. I'm definitely not prepared for this, though. I'm almost one year out from sleeve and have lost 130 pounds. I guess the gallstones are common after weight loss.

Good luck, my doc gave me a preventative gallstone med post -op so I will take it religiously. Maybe we need more healthy fats in our diet.

Good luck! My pre-op tests showed I had 1 gallstone so my doc is taking my gallbladder out at the same time as he's doing my sleeve. I hope your surgery went well this morning!!

Hello! I had my gallbladder out 4 years ago - completely unrelated to weight loss surgery as I haven't had it yet. While sounding scary, the laparoscopic gallbladder removal is not bad. I was up and about the next day, just with a sore tummy. I have four tiny scars and had no complications. The only negative thing I can think of is that my body doesn't process grease as well as it did before.

You've got this!!!!!

Thank you everybody! I still haven't had the surgery, due to insurance reasons they are transferring me to a different hospital. I can't wait to go home and have something to eat, they won't let me eat anything because it will cause me pain and also they don't know when the surgery is. For those of you that had this, did you have pain before? And is this kind of something that happens after weight loss? Or from being obese prior?

Just had mine removed due to WLS and things are so much better. The attacks were horrible. You will be fine. Reintroduce food slowly and avoid fatty foods and you will be ok! Good-luck!

You will get along fine without it, and will feel much better. I had mine out in 1973, back when they cut you half in two, but I never did have any serious digestion problems after the removal. The gall bladder helps you digest fat, so just be careful not to eat anything too greasy, rich, or spicey for a while. I did have "ghost pains" for a few weeks, but that wasn't anything I couldn't handle. You will be surprised at how much better you will feel in a few days.

Thanks everyone! I am home now. I'm a little sore but feeling so much better than before. They said the gb was quite large from the stones. I'm just glad it's out.

Hello. I had sleeve/galllbladder surgery on 4/8/14. Prior to the surgery I had severe back pain on a daily basis. Since the surgery I've had zero back pain. I'm so glad I decided to have my gallbladder removed the same time as my sleeve surgery. Sending you prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recovery.

I found out last week I have gallstones, my GI doc decided to do an ultrasound as a precautionary measure even though I've had no symptoms. I'm not scheduling surgery until I have symptoms. My GI doc recommends I have it out now, but dang it I don't want to stop my exercise regime, I'm so close to hitting my 100 lbs lost.

I had back pain too that developed about 6 months post op. It is good to hear yours went away. Hopefully mine will too.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
