gottagonow 82 Posted June 14, 2014 I was told not to take them but to talk to your surgeon if you need them infrequently. The surgeon's orders put me back on BCPs as soon as the surgery was complete. 1 blondiebabs reacted to this
KSTUZ 438 Posted June 14, 2014 <p>Yes, @@KSTUZ we can do this! I do not like getting those cortisone shots either! We will feel so much better once we shed some of this extra weight. My ortho doctor says for every pound I lose, it takes 4 pounds of pressure off my joints. Now, that has to make a difference in how we feel. </p> <p> </p> <p>Thank you @@blondiebabs ! I hope to be posting from the losing bench soon! </p> Congrats on your date!! Very exciting. And yes my weight is def hurting my joints. To the extent of me being very depressed at times. After I wake up in the morning it takes me almost ten min just to get to the stairs. And I need to hold on to anything as I walk. I hate those days when they are that bad. I'm trying to walk and get my 30 min a day now, but with no NSAIDs and how much pain my ankle is in...ugh. Feels like an endless cycle. And sometimes I don't walk, and even throw myself a pity party cause of it. I have to stop that too. Just push through it. Ugh. Venting morning for me sorry! #9grammy 274 Posted June 15, 2014 I had to give up nsaids a couple of years ago because of kidney damage. It is difficult with fibro, Migraine, and tension headaches but I did make it. You can get Tylenol with caffeine and no aspirin which does help my tension headaches. Aspirin free excedrin. And I have a script for tramadol, too. Did you get a script for the tramadol that dissolves on your tongue?
Georgia Pritchett 53 Posted June 17, 2014 I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm still pre-surgery. I think I can make it on what they give me for pain relief during surgery. I tend not to like the dissolving meds (at least not the dissolving Migraine meds--those actually made me throw up). I do fear having a fibro flare post surgery. My flares seem to follow no set pattern, unfortunately. My last abdominal surgery didn't trigger one (2004, ovary and cyst removal and that was an open surgery because of the size of the cyst). Jen35 283 Posted June 17, 2014 I suffer from fybromyagia and I get severe haeadaches, too. My fybro has improved after the surgery (I'm 13 months out) but the headaches are still there. I was told no NSAIDs, too, but nothing else helps. Tramadol does nothing. My reg. MD gave me a standing script for Loretab but that doesn't really help for my headaches and I can't work while taking a narcotic. So I'm back to ibuprofen, which the surgeon said I can take as a last resort when I really need it. I haven't been taking it as much as before, but probably more than I should. Now I have abdominal pain and they are wondering if it is an ulcer, but it could be something else. That is the real concern with NSAIDS - ulcers. 1 BabySheldon reacted to this

No NSAIDs is very hard with fibro. I have to do it because of my kidney issues. But some days, it's really difficult to get out of bed with the pain. Here's hoping you don't have an ulcer. Donna22 6 Posted June 17, 2014 I also have suffered from Fibro and CFS prior to surgery. Was taking Celebrex prior to surgery which helped somewhat, but no doubt losing 75 pounds (since surgery 6 mos ago) has drastically reduced the aches and pains that were so chronic before surgery. My doc still allows me to use Celebrex (I had sleeve)., but I'm hoping to eventually wean off it as I continue to lose weight. So for those of you in pain pre surgery, my experience has been that pain greatly reduced with loss of pounds! 2 Georgia Pritchett and BabySheldon reacted to this
Scylla 106 Posted June 25, 2014 I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees. It was torture having to give up the Voltaren that I had been taking for about 7 years. My surgeon wants me to exercise 5+ days a week, but being off of the NSAIDS makes that very difficult and painful. I am taking Tramadol and Tylenol. It helps a little, but doesn't do much for the inflammation. I was OK'ed to take Celebrex about 2 weeks after surgery. I tried it for about a month but it did not really help me AND caused me to gain weight! No thanks!
Lacowgirl72 210 Posted June 25, 2014 I take Excedrin Migraine for bad headaches (I take something else for actual migraines) and I won't be able to take that anymore - ever, according to my nurse and surgeon. I'm also wondering what I'll be able to take instead - I don't believe the surgery will alleviate my headache issue since I've had them since I was in my teens and before I was heavy. My surgery is Wed 6/18! My nurse told me to check with my neurologist to see if I could take tramadol instead. It's a script because it's a narcotic. I haven't called about it yet, I'll call on Monday and see what the neurologist says. I haven't found anything that works for my bad knees - I'm looking forward to losing this weight so my knee pain is relieved!!! I'm so glad you started this thread - this is one of my biggest concerns! I'll keep following to see if anyone else has something OTC that works as well as Excedrin Migraine for headaches!!! I too have suffered from Migraines for years. Since surgery 8 weeks ago I haven't had one headache. I think eliminating gluten from my diet has helped the headaches. 1 Georgia Pritchett reacted to this

Oh and I have been on Mobic for 2 years due to arthritis in my feet. Dr told me I could take after 6 weeks on a as needed basis. But even with working out 5 days a week I have not needed to take any. I did some research and found that gluten also inflames joints which might be why my arthritis is better.

Interesting - I had a nutritionist take me off gluten a few years ago to help me with migraines and it didn't help my migraines at all but it DID help my knees! I have already had several headaches since I got home, no migraines luckily but just some regular headaches. I've used the liquid pain meds that they sent me home from the hospital with to alleviate them. The liquid diet does seem to be making a difference for my knees - not 100% but the pain is not as bad as it was pre-surgery. So that's a good thing

Yesterday, my knees and other joints started to become inflamed. So, I emailed my WL surgeon today and he said I could take it as long as it was with food and Omeprazole. So, I hoping it will be okay. Also, I'm getting a steroid shot in my knee tomorrow.
blondiebabs 214 Posted June 26, 2014 I had a consult with my surgeon today, and he said that he usually releases his sleeve patients to use NSAIDs after a couple of months, and recommended Celebrex. So that made me feel better because the topic has been almost a make or break the deal for me. He expects that once I lose a lot of the weight I won't be in much pain anymore anyways and will not need them as often, which is what I'm hoping for! I appreciate everyone's feedback here. 2 Georgia Pritchett and mrshall617 reacted to this
