9 weeks - food aversion-nausea -HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm new to the boards, I hope I'm posting in the right place…I'm 9 weeks post surgery and I am nauseous everyday and I can barely make myself eat. I have not vomited, but I have terrible coughing and dry heaving fits throughout the day. No food appeals to me, I try, but I'm barely eating and for sure not getting enough Water. Is this normal? I need to know if there's an end in sight to feeling this way. I want to want food again, if that makes sense. I've been taking Zofran that I was prescribed the day of surgery. I'm almost out and I'm not even sure if it's helping. Is there another medicine that can be prescribed? I'm scheduled for my three month visit on July 8, but if I continue to feel this awful I may have to call the office.

Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!!

Yes, there are several different anti-nausea medications that can be prescribed. I got several after surgery because the nausea was so intense. I'm not yet 9 weeks out so cannot give you advice there, but if it were me, I'd call my doctor for sure. Good luck - hope you start feeling better soon!

Are you taking anything for acid reflux? Nausea and cough fits are very common symptoms of reflux. Even if you are taking something already, you may just need a different medicine. Talk to your doctor. Good luck!

My surgery was 4/23. I get mega nauseous when I drink water... And a few other times through out the day for what I thought was no reason. Turns out, I'm hungry. I had no idea because I can't tell anymore. I am not on a strict eating schedule by my doc/nut so I'm learning my new stomach. I wake up nauseous many mornings and as soon as I start my Protein Shake, I start feeling better. I usually try and have some eggs and Beans while I drink my shake (over about 2/3 hours). Around 11:30, nauseous again. Lunchtime. If I drink Water during this time, it's like it makes my stomach mad. Like "hey I want food!" Lol when I get home from work, nauseous.

My point is I get nauseous when I haven't eaten. Or if I try to have water instead of food.

We're all different though ;-)

It's good to hear others' experiences with this -- and what they've learned about themselves. Thanks.

And to the OP, in your shoes I would go STRAIGHT to your surgeon's office. Don't suffer any longer.

I'm 9 weeks out as well and I've had some minor bouts of nausea but I found it was usually Vitamin related. So if I take any of my supplements on an empty stomach...GAG! Are you taking any by any chance and are you taking with food?

also, your doc will likely prescribe you an anti acid reducer. I take 2 pills a day of Omprezole. I tried going off at 2 months post op and it was the longest week of my life...HORRIBLE. I had no appetite, perma-heart burn....it sucked. Took 2 Omprezole once I refilled my prescription and was good to go again literally within an hour.

Sounds like doc visit is in your cards for sure, won't hurt.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
