My surgery date is June 23rd. My doctor called yesterday and said my pre op labs came back with Low Potassium and h. Pylori. But these should be treatable before my surgery as long as I started the meds right away.

But holy smokes. I have to take 4 meds, 4 times a day for the h. Pylori and they are all timed. Such as, can't take one of the meds within 2 hours of a meal or the other meds. So I had to sit down and write out a pill and meal schedule.

I still haven't heard what they want to do about the low potassium. Anyone else experience that?

I had h. Pylori a year before surgery after having so many troubles from my band. When I started treatment I could not adhere to it because of the terrible metallic taste it have me. So I never took the treatment. Year later I had revision surgery and nothing was ever brought up about it, but untreated h. Pylori can lead to stomach cancer. So if you can side effects be sure to comply with your treatment.

I was diagnosed with H Pylori last summer, it was very active and very painful. You really, really want to stick to antibiotics and the schedule they give you. You do not want the H Pylori to become active, as it is extremely painful and it takes 3 months or so to fully recover. Plus, if you do not continue with the antibiotics and the H Pylori is still in your gut, it becomes resistant to that particular "cocktail" of antibiotics, which means you will be put on a stronger dose of different antibiotics, which could in the long run create more problems. When you are done with the antibiotics don't forget to eat lots of yogurt or Probiotics to regrow the good bacteria in your stomach and intestines as antibiotics destroy the good and the bad bacteria. Good luck and if you need any support, don't hesitate to contact me.

I was treated for it a week, then had my surgery on Monday. I'm home now. No complications .. yet. My stomach hurts the worse today for some reason, but it's not TOO bad. just very uncomfy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
