One month out help

Hi I'm one month out today, and for the most part has been a really good journey! BUT today has been a bad day I saw my surgeon yesterday and he finally cleared me for solids, I wasn't hungry in the morning but in the afternoon I decided to have a salad with some goat cheese, I felt Full right away and then about two hours later got this acidy feeling Of hunger. I thought I wasn't supposed to feel hunger, and I broke out into a cold sweat, and just generally didn't feel good. I just wanted a cookie, and after I had it I felt better, this is so strange because I've been totally fine and haven't really felt hunger. Has. Anyone experienced this? My fear is that ill be hungry on solids which from what i thought shouldnt happen? I thought salad was a healthy choice...

I haven't tried salad yet because I feel that it could be difficult to digest. That's prob why you felt like that. It kind of scares me. I think I will try some tomorrow.

I wasn't cleared for salad until about 3 months out and I still can't tolerate it very well at 7 months. Some docs say no salad for the first year. Also, the goat cheese may have been ambitious on your new tiny tummy.

Your hunger feeling could be acid - many new sleevers will confuse hunger with acid. I did. I do feel hunger and have felt it for quite some time, but it's different than before surgery. Hungry for me feels more like empty. You'll have to learn what your new hunger feels like.

Also, if something doesn't agree with you early on, like your salad and goat cheese experiment, give it a week or two and try it again. It's going to be trial and error while your tummy is healing.

I eat about every 2-3 hours. In the beginning, like you are a month out, I measured everything. I focused on 1-2 ounces of Protein - turkey breast, chicken breast, deli meat, etc. If I had room for anything else, a bit or two of vegetable or Beans. Know that you may not be able to eat the same amount at every meal. Some times 1 ounce filled me up, others I felt like 2 ounces wasn't enough. Focus on chewing your food 20-25 times and slowing down your eating.

Wen i saw my surgeon he said i can eat anytjing just take it easy, he never mentioned that salads might be a bad thing right now? Can u guys help with some meals , im not much of a cook, dont mind buying.... I was so excited to get off the soft/pureed!

A rotisserie chicken from your grocery store is an option. The meat is moist and easy to digest. Omelets, meatloaf...anything really, like your surgeon said. It took a while before I could eat lettuce and you really don't want to fill up on lettce and have no room left for Protein. My go to when I am at a loss is egg salad, I love it. Also for lunch I will roll up some deli turkey and swiss together. If you are not much of a cook....does your grocery store have pre made food? Mine has a big variety...chicken marsala, eggplant parm, sausage + peppers, stuffed cabbage, etc.

Just try to focus on Protein and veggies and try different things to see what you can tolerate right now.

One month out I ate a lot of chicken and turkey breast. Buying a rotisserie chicken as the poster above suggests is a good thing - it's many meals. I ate a lot of deli meat and sharp cheddar cheese as well - I rolled the turkey around the cheese - you can dip in mustard or spread on some guacamole or add some cucumber sticks. Frozen turkey meatballs are a good choice. Fat free refried Beans w/ some melted cheddar - top is off with some plain Greek yogurt (instead of sour cream) and, if your stomach will tolerate it, a little salsa - yummo. For Breakfast it has been a Jimmy Dean Turkey sausage patty and scrambled egg.

Thanks all yes i live in Brooklyn so

Pre made food is everywhere! Rotisserie is a great idea, i have heard that deli meats in general is just not healthy so was trying to stay away but ill try it, im guessing maybe raw veggies weren't a good idea! Although it's been a month I feel like i i can eat anything. And I know that's wrong! I just want to eat something so I'm not hungry after

I'd have to check, but raw veggies weren't on my approved foods until 8 weeks or so. Every doctor is different.

It's going to be trial and error for a while. Just remember, you're still healing, so be gentle with your new tiny tummy.

I think that one of the hardest adjustments for me has been pretty much giving up salad and most raw veggies entirely. I'm over 9 months out and I cannot tolerate high bulk foods whether they are raw veggies or a bagel. I love all vegetables and miss them terribly, but it is what it is. I eat things like cooked spinach or mashed cauliflower (which is delicious!), but salad, no way! I have made the mistake of trying to eat bulky veggies or things like bread or Pasta and just paid the price over the porcelain god! it is possible that what you felt was something other than hunger, who knows.

That said, you will feel hunger after the sleeve. There is some evidence that getting sleeved reduces the production of the hormone needed to create the physical sensation of hunger, but that does not mean you won't ever feel hungry or have your tummy rumble when you smell a food you like. It was at least 6 months for me before that hungry feeling returned, but everyone is different! Please don't assume that your sleeve is a failure because you feel hunger!

It's crazy how different we all feel after our sleeves! I just had a salad for supper.....Apple pecan grilled chicken from Wendy's....and I ate 1/3 of a half order! Lol. It filled me up very quickly but I love it. I'll have some left over for tomorrow. I'm 8 weeks out I think....maybe 9 and I've been eating salads for a couple weeks.

I'm jealous of you guys that can eat salads. I miss them so much. I can eat maybe 1/2 cup of lettuce - that's it. It does not agree with me. I know people that can eat cups full of salad.

I can only eat about a half a cup too. But it's nice to be able to eat out when my family is eating out. I just get the salad with some grilled chicken. Lots of leftovers!

I eat a salad almost everyday....i measure it in a cup and i usually eat 1/2 cup or less so 4oz or less a day....i love it!!
