Hi all,

I'm new here - just started the process toward getting a sleeve with Kaiser Permanente in Southern CA - but I'm already wondering about food options. I know that, even now, I sometimes get in food ruts and make the same 4 things over and over and it gets old. After the surgery my food options will be so limited anyways that I dont want to feel further limited by my lack of creativity.

Help me out. What are your favorite things to eat? Especially in the first months before I can really eat with my family again (but obviously with portion changes and carbs left out).

And if anyone else is doing Options at Kaiser in Panorama City starting next week - hi!

What I eat most: chicken, beef, shrimp, veggies, yogurt, fruit, nuts, cheese.

I don't feel like it gets old, because I'm not a slave to food anymore. It's nourishment, as it should be.

For a few months eating was a "chore" Now it's just necessary for life.

I love chicken and all kinds of sea food. I have also noticed that i have a serious obsession with Peanut Butter now, reduced fat peanut butter of course. Just LOVE the taste now. I used to hate peanut butter.

It's so true that food has a new meaning. It really is like just something you have to do. I have caught myself calling it consumption or that I consumed because I truly feel a disconnect. meats become so good. Breads and rice are less enjoyable. Shrimp is good. I eat a lot of deli meat and cheese rolled up. Let me also warn that crackers are really good but a slider food and can be eaten easily which is bad! Enjoy the journey and be careful. Some things you will regret that they ever seemed like a good idea (mine was Hawaiian punch! Thought I was going to die!)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
