I'm 4 months out from my surgery, and things are going great.

I had no issues prior to surgery, no co-morbidities, but a BMI of 47 which was the qualifier. Everything went perfectly before and since. The only problems I had were

1. sticking to the pre-op diet, I did not do well

2. pain much greater than I had anticipated the week following surgery

3. overthinking and worrying about things prior to surgery

I feel very lucky.

Having said all this, I see that there is a common theme among all of us whether preparing for surgery, or recently sleeved, and that is "how fast am I losing?" or "is this a normal rate of loss?"

I have lost about 45 pounds in four months, and feel this is fantastic. It averages 2-3 pounds a week, around 10 per month. And it is consistent. If I stall, I don't even think about it. I know the weight will continue to fall off as my body adjusts. Never in my life have I lost weight and been almost 100% certain that I won't gain it back. But remember, that IS possible if you don't work on yourself and your habits.

Fortunately - very, very fortunately - the sleeve is an amazing TOOL to help you make the changes you need to.

Pay attention to the learning curve (I am still on it) you'll have along the way, and try to make the best choices you can MOST of the time. Look at your progress over a week's time, not every single day. Just do the best yo can. The only person you have to prove anything to is yourself. Be proud of yourself and the path you are on.

That's all I got!

so happy to hear that things have and will continue to go well!!! :)

you are right

the two questions/statements that are frequently mentioned/asked...............

"how fast am I losing?" or "is this a normal rate of loss?"

common response is that we're all different

never, ever, ever compare yourself with anyone else!!!!

people have been shot for less!! :o :D

the one thing we have in common is that wer'e all different!!!!

45 lbs down

terrific

keep up the good work :)

i know you will ;)

Kathy

congrats

Something I have to constantly remind myself is that we are all different. I am also 4 months po and have dropped 76 lbs so far. I know a woman that lives in my complex and has dropped over 100 and is only 3 months po. A big factor in the amount we lose is our starting weights. The higher the starting weight the more you lose and faster in the beginning. The only time I get aggravated is if I know someone isn't following our diet and exercise guidelines but still loses quickly. I'm a stickler and follow everything to the T so I'm sure you can see why it would get to me. Anywho... congrats on your loss and keep up the fantastic work hun

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
