Hi everyone, I have been a silent and non-registered reader on this site for a while, so I decided to officially register today. I am almost at my one-year anniversary for my surgery, and I have to say that one year ago, I never thought I would be this close to my goal weight. As I was deciding to have lap band surgery, I made some serious life-changing decisions including rethinking my whole way of eating and my attitude about food. I didn't expect to get thin per say. I just wanted to be healthy and be able to move better. Now, having lost 130 pounds, I not only feel healthier, but I am healthier. I have tried to follow my surgeon's eating instructions to a T, and I recently have begun exercising, which I probably should have started a while ago. It is interesting that a lot of people are noticing the weight loss and asking what I have been doing. I do not usually tell people about the surgery or how much I have lost. I find the "how much weight have you lost" question a little much. I do tell people about my new eating habits, and often they just dismiss that information and tell me what I should do based on what they have read. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and officially join this community.

You sound like me. I don't share pounds lost with anyone other than my husband. Most people don't know I had WLS. Welcome to this wonderful site. Enjoy your new you

Arlene

It seems so weird to me that people want to know how much weight I lost. Most of them would never think to ask how much I gained, right? I do not tell most people about the WLS. I usually focus on the complete change in my eating habits.

You are AMAZING and an inspiration. After 2 years I have lost only 30 pounds and am profoundly depressed. I started drinking sugary liquids to fill myself, out of a fear of getting stuck and throwing up (which happened to me very severely). I am trying to start anew and thank you for being such a role model.

Have you had your Fluid level checked? It sounds to me as if you are in your Red Zone and far too tight and that is why food is making your throw up, you are filling up on sugary liquids and afraid to eat and not making any progress. That is misery and no way to live with a band. And it can be harmful to you. If you haven't, get in, get your band checked, adjusted and see the possibilities of life with a properly adjusted band.

Remember, it isn't about "restriction." It's about being in your Green Zone. Your band is a tool, not a punishment. Make it work for you, not work you over. ;)

I hate it when I forget passwords. I finally made a notebook with my passwords. I know that it's a bad, no-no but I just can't keep them all in my head.

Occasionaldream

You are too tight. You can't lose weight when you are too tight. Go get an some fill taken out and you will be amazed to feel the band work as it is designed to do.

Amazing job ladies, nice to hear all the great stories. I can honestly say that I love my band even when I have my bad moments. food is not a priority in my life anymore. "I eat to live not live to eat"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
