southjrsygrl 0 Posted April 19, 2007 Hi all, I got the lapband Nov. 20th. I have lost only 29lbs. I went to the DR. today, and he put me on pills. I was wondering how many people are on these, and what if any progress they had? Thanks Grace Z.
argon 3 Posted April 19, 2007 You should probably specific what kind of pills you're taking. 29lbs in less than 5 months is far from bad. I'm surprised your Dr. would prescribe weightloss pills for you. I think you should be looking into what you're eating and doing exercise wise first, before you start taking pills. If you've tried everything else, and this truly is a last result, I apologize, and by all means, go for it.

tonya66 13 Posted April 20, 2007 I took Phentermine during the Bandster Hell. Yes, I got some flack for it, but I was determined not to gain! Maybe some feel like I was cheating, but I also felt I needed the energy that Phentermine gave me - it was just a little boost that I needed. I now take Thermogentics - its over the counter fat burner by EAS. I don't take it regularly because I forget, but it gives me a little energy. I just got my 2nd fill and I don't think there is a need for any type of appetite surpressant now, it is tight and I stay full for hours and hours and can't eat much. The only thing I am still lacking is ENERGY. grrrrrr. Hopefully as the weight continues to come off, I will get some, my CPAP machine is helping, but not enough. paula 4 Posted April 20, 2007 Ive taken diet pills off and on during my banded years. When I ve noticed a weight gain (+3-5 pounds) I'll taken them for a week or so till I can get my eating under control. I keep a bottle of tenuate (oblong tablets) on hand for these situations! I -always- break the tablet in half, I cant stand the 'high' feeling the diet pills give me. For me, 1/2 tablet works fine and goes through the stoma with no problems. Good luck! neveragain 9 Posted April 20, 2007 I would hope that my doctor wouldn't suggest Phen-Fen. This is going on the assumption that he's read a medical journal in the last 10 years. haha. I don't know why, but I would be really scared to take any weight loss pills with the band. Anybody else say that their doctor would support this?

I have seen docs that give low dose amphetamines during bandster hell but I personally think it is wrong to give an established banded person. If the band isn't working the reason needs to be identified, not drugs. Better food choices A fill A slight unfill More Water More exercise Fewer calories ....to name a few. Drugs aren't going to resolve the long term issues. Actually, they could make them worse.

Not only can this effect your thyroid, but it also makes your body more reliant on such drug rather than working it out via what was stated above. Dont forget that these pills are stimulants... they effect your hear and other vital organs....
Betsyjane 2 Posted April 20, 2007 My biggest scare would be that when I took diet pills pre-banding, I always ended up gaining MORE weight back later. Wouldmn't want to deal with those horrible starvation cravings again. For energy now, I take one or 2 sublingual B-12 pills (over the counter) under my tongue. Gives me energy without the sweats of those thermogenic diet pills.

beachgirl 2 Posted April 20, 2007 My husband starting taking phentermine the week I got banded and 9 months later I've lost only 60 pounds but 60 inches as well and he's lost 60 pounds. I have paid almost 15000.00 and he's paid 60 per month, he orders them off the internet. But, I bet I don't gain mine back, lol.

Betsyjane 2 Posted April 20, 2007 I think I got my b-12 at Walgreens...... If not, it was CVS. I like the sublingual because it works fast.
