sick of movies representing fat women as stupid!

Recommended Posts

I just saw a commercial for a new movie with Melissa McCarthy in it. Why is she playing the same part over and over, portraying herself as a stupid, fat, slovenly, drunk who can't control herself? It really makes me mad because I think many people believe fat people are lazy and unable to have any self control. While I am no longer fat, it offends me because it is promoting that stereotype. Even when I was 267 lbs I was hard working, intelligent, and able to exhibit self control.

Grrrr it makes me really cranky!

Because people that have never been overweight find "fat" people funny.

"Ohhh hahaha it's funny cos he's fat".. I've heard it from many mouths.

It's all about money.. Like rebel Wilson she's in the same boat. Makes me sick but it's what gets them money?

Blonde girls are always dumb and it's hilarious when fat people fall over and can't get back up... Wonderful world we live in :)

Well if people would stop going to their movies then they would stop making them.

Hit them in their pocketbook because that speaks louder then words.

I also agree it's insulting.

I love melissa mcarthy! Shes a comedian and is making her way in this world the best way she can. I for one love her talent and she makes me laugh. She's an actress , she's doing what she does and her being fat is just who she is. Other comedians have their nitch and she's got hers! I don't find her insulting, she accepts herself and is happy with who she is!!

I just love her!

Well we can look at it from another perspective. She wouldve been good at comedy at any weight. So is her character completely related to being big? Some jokes are made sure. But some skinny people perpetually play similar characters. Mr Bean. Adam Sandler. Sandra Bullock. The Saturday night live cast.

I, for one, refuse to watch anything she is in. I would not see the one where she stole someone identity, and I won't watch her on TV. I don't think she is funny, at all! But, too each her/his own!

I liked Melissa McCarthy when I first saw her in something; thought she was hysterical. But every single thing she does, is the exact same character. I do not see her as a social representation of "fat women", but I've gotten to the point where I don't care for her......or any actor that can't switch gears.

On another note, we're big fans of Drop Dead Diva, which portrays a heavy woman as intelligent and comfortable in her own skin. We don't like the show because of anything to do with her weight. We just simply.....enjoy the show. I can name several other heavy actors who play intelligent, professional women. I don't see Melissa McCarthy as a representation for the obese female population. I see her as someone who has stereotyped herself, but will hopefully break that annoying repetition down the road.

Actors don't stereotype themselves. The directors and producers who cast them are to thank for that. Actors prefer to broaden themselves and love challenging work, but if no one hires them for it, they go where their bread is buttered.

Ehh, I don't see the big deal, however I am from an entirely different group that is represented a lot in the wrong light. I see it as if she wants to play that role, and other people want to play on their stereotypes then to each their own. I for one am never stupid or the stereotype my group of people are portrayed as. If someone isn't truly biased and open when they see you then they will know that her characters don't represent all overweight women, if not then you really didn't need their company anyways.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
