I don't know which to do. I know I shouldn't get weighed. However I had ordered some new scales and wanted to set a baseline for weighing once a week. The new scales are mechanical and meant to be super accurate. The old ones are digital and vary by a pound or two if you get on and off them, plus I always thought they were a little heavy.

Anywho - I now weigh a stone heavier than I do on the old scales. That now means that in the last 4 weeks of pre op diet and fluids only I have lost about 5 lbs and not the 17 I've lost on my old scales. I feel utterly disheartened. Ironically I can't even have something nice to cheer me up!

Has anyone else found this. I really thought that the sleeve would be the answer, but apparently not for me. I can't face the thought of 300 to 500 calories a day for the rest of my life, just to loose a pound a week. Sorry for whining, I can't tell anyone how bad I am feeling. Thank you for listening.

Don't worry, I have two different scales as well. Both say something different. The sleeve is a tool and be grateful for that pound a week..... It will be at least 52 pounds for the year. Plus ur going to loss way more than that at first.

Our numbers are similar I started at 242 and her it is 8 1/2 months later and I'm down to 179....it's been hard but worth every second.

Don't worry as time goes on you will be able to eat more than ur currently eating. I eat abt 700-800 cal per day.

Hi Mollsy,

This is just the beginning...remember that you loved yourself enough to have the courage to make a life changing decision to take control of your health once and for all. Try not to get too caught up in what the scale is telling you. Embrace how you feel and if it's a bad day try to remember that it will pass as many of us can agree...it does get better and it does not happen right away. You are on a new path now and it can be rocky but the view from the top is beautiful, just don't forget to enjoy the whole journey!

Thank you Olarance75 and Betterthancake, I'm so frustrated but can't say much at home because they can't understand how I feel. I just can't see a light at the end of the tunnel today. I felt OK until the stupid scales got here!

There is a light trust me.... We have all been there...afraid that this to isn't going to work. It will work....it's working now....the hard part is over and once u go to regular foods it just gets easier. No one understands because they haven't been through it. I was freaking out cause felt like I should be at 140 now but realizing its a slow race but I will be successful.

Trust in the process. This will work. Stay away from the scales. It is a long term process and there are going to be plateaus, but this will work. You can do it.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I have got up this morning and recognised my dangerous mood. Normally I would get over this feeling by eating. So now I can't do that - thank goodness. So I have decided that it doesn't matter what the number is, as long as it gets smaller that's all that matters.

Onwards and downwards!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
