How long do the post-op gas pains typically last? They are pretty bad 2 days out. I have been walking for 15 minutes every hour...taking Gas-X and pain meds. I feel like I cant take a deep breath because of it. I know this is all normal, but am curious how long it lasts?

Everyone is different, but mine lasted for about 5-7 days. It does get better! You will start to see the light shortly! Hang in there and congrats on the start of your new life!!

I want to say that mine lasted about a week. It was really bad the first couple of days and then lightened up. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Please forgive my ignorance ... I'm preparing to be banded in Aug. Why is taking Gas-X post op recommended? I know there is "inflation" during the surgery, but that's just the abdominal cavity and not in the digestive track. Thanks in advance for the enlightenment.

I wondered the same thing, cellibelli. Apparently you end up absorbing the gas. weird, I know. I'm feeling a little better now...sipping warm tea helps. I hope I'm past the worst part. I am still not hungry..at all. My stomach was growling for food on the way to surgery. Now, not a peep from it..lol.

My Pain gas last me 5 days I had left shoulder pain too due the gas. Gas X help little bit for me but I use Therema Care heating pad for the shoulder pain. Best investment ever! Remember to walk, walk and walk. Good Luck

A musical evening! I'm kinda looking forward to it (gas) ... I live in a house full of men - how they love to expel gas and giggle. Well, guess who's gonna be giggling.

I know, right? It's okay for hubby to do it, but when I do it, I get a shocked look. Haha.

6 months?!? OMG. Is it still painful? It gives me random sharp pains through out the day.

Oh NO! It's not the gas from the surgery. Your body changes after the band. You become very burpy and GASSY! Not sure why, but it's very common.

Every time I think the gas pains are gone, they return with a vengeance...ugh. Starting to wonder if it's the Protein Shakes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
