New to LBT: Hi Everyone!

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally got up the nerve to post my introduction. I have been lurking on this site since December 2006, but was too nervous to say "Hi!". I was paranoid that if I talked about getting my band too much before it happened, I would somehow jinx myself!

Anyway, after years of researching multiple WLS, including RNY, Duodenal Switch, and finally Lap Band, I finally found a medical group that would at least refer me to a WLS specialist for a consult. My old group gave me the run-around for years, saying they only supported Weight Watchers. Well, I'm sorry, but if WW had worked for me, I would have been skinny 24 years ago! Both my husband and I have been dieting for years, a scenario I know many of you are all too familiar with after reading so many of your posts over the past few months.

We both had our Lap Band surgeries on February 26, 2007, and we both got the VG 10cc band. Let me tell you, that was a rough week! However, now almost 8 weeks post-op, things are much better. I have lost 28 pounds, and hubby has lost over 30 pounds since the surgery. We had our first fills on April 4th (5cc for me, 3.5 for hubby). I still feel like I need more restriction, so I have another fill appointment on May 5th. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one does the trick, and helps keep me honest with my eating!

I love how supportive and encouraging everyone is in this forum. Again, just wanted to introduce myself, so if I post in another thread, people won't say, "Who is that crazy Rose person, anyway?"

Hey Rose,

You are on your road to recovery from our addiction. I remember I felt "healed" from the moment I had the surgery. I had to remind myself , oh yeah I still have to lose the weight!!

Welcome and best wishes,

edie

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
