Thanks for all the well wishes. Waiting for my surgeon to get here. It takes an army to move me because of all the things I'm hooked up to. I'm nervous of course and I cried again but my anesthesiologist will be here soon and the nurses said they will give me something for anxiety. The heperin shot in my belly didn't hurt but that's the reason I had to get here 2 hours early. Practiced my breathing with that funny breathing tube game (don't remember it's real name). Anyways- just thought I would chronicle what they have you do preop. Bring something to keep you occupied. For me, it's this app on my phone.

See y'all on the flip side (aka recovery).

Why the heparin shot in belly? Has anyone else gotten this?

The heparin shot is a blood thinner to prevent blood clots during and after surgery, I believe. I received them as well.

I had this shot as well.

My doctor also requires this shot before surgery. He said most blood clots happen while the patient is still on the table. But get this - he also requires the shots twice a day for a week after surgery. So the patient (or someone else) has to give the shots! Has anyone else faced this with their doctor?

Good luck in surgery!!! May your recovery be swift and as painless as possible.

Only had those shots daily while in the hospital. It was funny cuz right before the injection the nurse said, "this is going to burn" ....so I waited a minute and said, "is it a delayed thing cuz I don't feel anything!" Guess I am lucky!

I had those shots during my stay at the hospital and had to give myself a shot everyday for 20

days at home. It's not fun at the beginning, but you get used to it. Anything that can prevent

blood clots is ok with me. Good luck, I hope your surgery went well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
