Initially I decided not to tell people about my weight loss surgery decision.but later I'm like it's my choice so sure I'll tell people.I'm still 5 months away from surgery but I've been called lazy, impatient and told told I'm going to look horrible after, by Family!!!!!!!!!! Wtf I'm so mad I opened my mouth!!!

Congratulation on getting healthy. WLS is not a cure all. It's a tool that takes a lot of work. I am healthier. Not as thin as I would like but I don't always eat perfectly and exercise enough. I am to blame. I don't like sharing my WLS with most people. I never share pounds lost.

At first I did not tell anyone but as I've lost weight I found that half truths do not work for me. So I tell those who matter and have received nothing but support.

Sounds like the people surrounding you are more worried about how WLS is going to effect them. Are they worried that their lifestyle may change too?

You go girl. You are doing this for yourself, not anyone else.

The family will come around to your side once the surgery is complete.

Yeah I told a couple ppl when I was thinking about lapband but I'm getting the vsg and I've since decided against telling ppl other than my husband and mother I'm going to tell everyone else that I had a hiatal hernia repair and loss weight on the pre op diet and I got motivated and ran with the weight loss. Or something like that lol

It got to a point with my sisters that I said "we are not discussing anything about my surgery". All my brothers were behind me 100%, but not the girls.

Anyway, now they are more supported although my oldest sister thinks I am going to lose too much weight! I'm not even at goal yet...

@@par1959 What happened to sticking to your opinion? I believe you deleted your comment. Any way, I'd still like to address your ignorance and lack of logical thinking. If someone in their 20s is having WLS, there's a good chance they've had this disease all of their life. Children do not buy/ cook their own food. They don't enroll themselves in sports or other outdoor activities. They don't buy televisions or video game systems to put in their rooms. A lot of obese young people are products of their environment... suffering from obesity at a very young age. Obesity is also a side effect (of sorts) of abuse. Many 20-somethings have WLS to gain control of their lives... control that they previously didn't have (and not by choice.) Please educate yourself before making a statement that makes you look like an ass because I'm sure you're a really nice person.

I'm 19 and I'm having surgery on the 7th of July. And I am definitely not lazy. I've played sports my whole life and have danced. Having this surgery is the only way i am going to lose the weight I need to in order to live a healthy life. This decision was in no way easy. The only people that know are my parents and my sister and brother.. I don't know how my other family members would react but at the same time it's my life so who cares if they think negatively about it.. Good luck everyone!

I don't care what people think!!! I'm 6 weeks out and it is heard as hell to do this!!! Worth it but it is not easy! You are now forced to make better choices! I'd like to see others who talk shit! have to stop doing something they love over night!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
