Lthomas 23 Posted June 10, 2014 I'm a week postop, I have heard the horror stories of dumping syndrome but have yet to experience this. Please share some of your dumping culprits!
Baconville 578 Posted June 10, 2014 I have followed my clinic's guidelines very carefully. I have never experienced dumping and am approaching my one year surgervarsary. I have, on occasion, had sweets, even candy, and high fat foods. I have had these though in VERY small amounts - no more than three bites. Everybody is different and some are much more sensitive. However, if you follow your plan, you will probably never experience it. Good luck! Carol 1 terry1118 reacted to this
terry1118 1,274 Posted June 10, 2014 I dumped for the very first time (and only time, I hope) last Friday. I brought a little can of B&M baked Beans to work for lunch - maple brown sugar or some such thing. I never checked the sugar grams, which turned out to be 12gr - more than I'm used to. About an hour after eating them I started w/severe abdominal cramps, mild nausea, heart racing, cold sweats, and shaking, followed by a mad dash for the ladies room. I was in there 30-40 mins, suffering intensely. When it was over I was shaky and weak. That lasted for another hour before I finally started to feel more like myself. I'll stick w/my favorite black bean chili next time I want beans... On the plus side, now I know I'm a dumper. It's a great motivator to stay on track. :-) 1 Queenfreak reacted to this
treilly 16 Posted June 11, 2014 I had my 1st experience of dumping syndrome last week. I ate some homemade cream cheese coconut butter cream icing off of my daughters bday cake. maybe a couple of spoonfuls. Not even 10 min went by and I was sweating profusely and my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest and then the nausea over came me and it felt like my insides were coming up with the icing. I was sick for 2 days. That will be my last experience with sweets for a very long time. Trust me it wasn't worth it. 1 Queenfreak reacted to this
TxDumplin 69 Posted June 11, 2014 I will break out in a sweat if i eat too fast. I'm a late dumper...it takes about a hour. I sweat if i drink my Syntrax nectar Protein drink too fast....I never cramped (wish i did)...just sweats and nauseous sometimes. 1 RNBSN786 reacted to this
pookybear 284 Posted June 11, 2014 I'm almost at a year and a half and thankfully never had dumping.
iamsoworthit 430 Posted June 12, 2014 I have dumped 3 times in the last year. Once from watermelon, once from chobani greek yogurt and once from an over ripe banana in my Protein Shake. I don't eat any refined sugar anymore but based on my experience with even fruit I dont tempt fate. I do eat fruit every day, I just always have Protein with it. Like a cheese stick or lower sugar greek yogurt.
Wallflower7522 328 Posted June 12, 2014 I'm 3 months out. The only thing that's made me sick was an egg with cheese that must have been cooked on a greasy grill. It made me throw up though. I'm glad that's been the worst thing that's happened so far. Follow your plan and you'll probably be fine.
winning_by_losing 107 Posted June 12, 2014 The only thing that has caused me to dump thus far was ketchup.< /p> Since then I've switched to sugar-free ketchup and had zero issues (though I do religiously avoid things with much sugar or fat).
Marathongirl 106 Posted June 12, 2014 I had dumping syndrome once. I had oatmeal with lactaid milk. It was the strangest thing, I didn't add sugar or anything. I had the cold sweats, heart racing, and was in the bathroom for awhile. I asked my doctor about it and they said that the oatmeal shouldn't have caused that at all, but I knew I never wanted to experience it again. I do know that if I do eat something with too much sugar I get terrible gas pains
Amyllf2 206 Posted June 15, 2014 Crab cake made my heart race within 5 minutes. chicken noodle Soup from Wegmans Market Place made me throw up 10 minutes into the meal.( made no sense) Those the only significant issues I have had in 8 weeks. That being said, I do get nauseous and end up with diarrhea often, which my nutritionist says that is still dumping even when it's hours later. Strawberries are a no go for me. Still not eating steak. Bowl of cheerios with lactose free milk wasn't good. Small Totillas not do great.
ranchbrat 5 Posted June 16, 2014 Anything high in sugar, my diabetes didn't go away, so I have to be really careful on the total carbs. If its over 15 grams of total carbs like baked goods and ice creams are no no's I have to really watch sugar free baked goods and ice creams as it depends on what they are sweetened with. rtzj9 3 Posted July 19, 2014 GS 6/12/14 - any high fat food or high carb count gets me nauseous and sweaty. I tried Avocado, that was the worst. Corned beef hash, salami, and cream cheese. Hope this helps.
terry1118 1,274 Posted July 19, 2014 I'm 14 months out but I've only dumped once, about a month ago. It was on maple baked Beans (high sugar content - I didn't read the lable til after). Worst experience EVER!
