Anyone had second thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Im having revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass. Im having second thoughts as to if I should even go through a third surgery. ( Had a revision lap band for flipped port). Im very afraid GP will fail. Lost 70 lbs with Lapband, but gained 30 back with pregnancy. I dont want to do the fills any more, and want something that will help me loose faster. But, not so sure of wanting to go through it all over again.

It's a personal decision, but I am SO happy I had bypass. My only regret is that....I wish I would have NEVER had the band...I didn't lose well with it (total 40 lbs but gained it all back) and had severe reflux and esophogeal distention and had to have all of the fill removed just to keep from having constant heartburn.

I don't know how old you are or how long ago you originally had your band....I had my band in 2006 and bypass in 2012. I'm 53 years old. Bypass has been a MUCH more pleasant experience all the way around (except having money disputes with my surgeron). Even though I was "self-pay" with both surgeries...I do NOT regret having additional surgery AT ALL...I'm glad I did!!!!

Thanks for your input. It helps to read others experiences. I hope that I am as succesful as you are. I am 27 yrs old. First Lap Band surgery was in Feb, 2008. Revision was in Feb, 2012. I dont have a surgery date for GP, but it should be sometime end June/ begin July. I am waiting for authorization from my insurance.

I never had a lapband but I am thrilled that I did the surgery. Best decision I ever made. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I would have had that many more healthier and happier days. If you are strict with yourself following your MD's meal plan and exercise 5-7 times a week you will reach your goal. I have a normal BMI and lost 9 comorbid diseases with my GB. It is a tool we still have to do the work and be committed for a lifetime to our plan and exercise or you can regain a lot of weight.

There are books you can download reasonably from Amazon that will provide very good practical and psychological information that I wish I had before my surgery. It would have made my journey less stressful.

Best Wishes!

Surgery is a huge decision. I always said that I would do anything but Gastric bypass. I wish I would have said "I will do nothing but Gastric bypass" I did lapband and plication. I understand the thought of doing another surgery is hard. Gastric Bypass is what works for most people long term. Keep reading and researching. Best wishes to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
