Freezing cold during the night - normal?

Recommended Posts

I am finding myself chilled to the bone at night in bed. My body feels warm to the touch except for my extremities (hands, feet, nose, basically). It doesnt seem to come with a real fever though, my actual temperature is normal. But the cold feeling and the shivering is intense. It eventually passes, and never happens during the day.

Anyone else experience this? And if so, do you have any coping strategies? I'm thinking it's a normal side effect of the body changes, but man, it's hard to deal with. Any help, or even commiserating, would be awesome...

:) heather

I assume you are post op? Be prepared for this to go on for while. My doctor says it is normal. I had surgery Feb 26 and mine is just now getting a little better. Try a heating pad........and know it is normal

Yes, I'm 14 days post op. Thanks guys. I really felt like I was dying in the night from the cold! It was crazy! Had them 2 nights in a row, really badly, but last night, nothing. I've been active and walking a lot, but the last 2 days I was a mess because of the night sweats. I'm going to get out today and walk and run some errands, hoping that will keep me up and active.

It seems there's not much you can do for the sudden cold spells except treat them when they come on, they aren't triggered by your behavior. I noticed today I lost 2 pounds, I wonder if they happen in conjunction with when the weight loss is coming on.

In any case, I do feel better after seeing responses to this post , and a few others, that it's very normal. lol. Thanks again.

I started out the same way. Now it seems to happen more often, not just at night, but I've grown to enjoy being cold.

For so many years I have been a walking furnace, dying during summers and praying for the 20 below days to feel comfortable.

Now I need sweatpants and hoodies where I used to be comfortable in shorts and t-shirts.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
