SURGERY IS TOMORROW...

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I just became a member 5 minutes ago and I go into surgery tomorrow morning at 6am. I had to do the 14 day pre-opt liquid diet and was successful (had some grilled fish every now and again). I've lost about 10 lbs and I am STARVING...lol! I'm allowed to have fish, chicken and/or beef if I'm feeling ravenous, so my question is, "Will it be okay for me to grill a piece of fish or should I not eat anything since the surgery is tomorrow?" Please help...

Thanks,

Bakari

My surgery is tomorrow too. I did a preop diet for about a month and liquid diet only 2 days preop - yesterday and today. I don't know the answer to your question except that you Should probably follow your docs guidance.

I was told not to eat anything 12 hours before surgery. My surgery was scheduled for 7am, so I didn't eat past 7pm the night before.

Thanks Joatsaint,

I think I'll suffer it to be so and not have anything.

Surgery on Tueaday - 2 days out today. It went well. They do the preop things like IV and so forth and then roll you into the OR. Once in OR we changed beds onto the surgery gurney and then I was out. Woke up as I was being moved into regular room. A little pain from the gas and some discomfort around the incisions- especially the left, larger one. I could have gone home yesterday but I was afraid and started throwing up when they gave me oral narcotic pain meds (I'm allergic or sensitive one). They switched me to a non-narcotic and that was way better. I walk every so often around the floor and that makes me feel much better.

Slowly siping warm liquids and ready to go home today. My friend recently had her gall bladder removed and it seems recovery is very similar.

On the sleeved side now and looking forward to losing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
