Has anyone skipped pureed stage?

Recommended Posts

Just not doing it for me....no restriction no full feeling no satisfying... Is it wrong to move on? I am all about rules but this is ridiculous.

Do you understand that this rule is to protect a surgical incision? You could cause serious damage.

By the way, my Doc had me on full liquids for 5 1/2 weeks and I stuck with it to protect my baby stomach.

I to could not stomach anything puréed

Just to gross for me!

I think I made a big pot of turkey chilli and puréed half of it to eat

So gross

So yea I pretty much skipped that phase and just did another week of like soft foods

Cottage cheese yogurt Protein Shakes etc

And now I eat tiny bites of regular food

I'm almost 5 weeks out

"just not doing it for me"

Complications aren't going to do much for you either.

Sorry to be blunt, but the surgeon doesn't give you guidelines for you to be so dismissive. It's tough, yes. It s*cks, actually. But you gotta do it to the best of your ability.

Be well…

Have you talked to your surgeon? They can best explain to you the benefits of the food stages as well as the risks involved for not following them. Just because someone else was able to successfully skip a stage does not mean that you are not risking a leak or an infection by doing the same.

I can't imagine anyone here being able to competently give you medical advice that trumps what your doctor is telling you to do. Aren't you and your health worth more than that?

Since Water intake matters, add some more water to what you are drinking now, It helps with the full feeling. I have 2 more days until puree ends for me. err 1 and some hours as I work nights and can start at midnight on the 11th.

Every surgeon is different and I am sure my doctor was not trying to split my sleeve or cause any harm. We mixed the pureed and soft foods phase per our NUT and surgeon. The "rules" vary. I think for those that need their chilli fix or the like, it needs to be pureed, but soft foods were fine. I could not handle the texture of puree and I'm glad I have a well qualified surgeon in many medical magazines who is reasonable.

My surgeon/program didn't require a purée stage. I was allowed to go from full liquids to soft foods at 2 weeks. Today, I was moved to regular diet at 6 weeks, but introducing one new food at a time.

Doing it. But it ain't easy. shakes are much easier than pureed crapola. But I'll keep trying. Another fail today but was ok yesterday with refried Beans, a little cheese and mild salsa.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
