Really Scared

Recommended Posts

I had a frightening episode last night. My Dr. did my first fill yesterday at 2:00pm (1cc in a 4cc band). I was drinking liquids fine the rest of the day. Had Nyquil and some hot tea before bed as I had a fever and sore throat since the am. I was sleeping about 1 hour and woke up with pain in my stomach. I got up and went to the bathroom and the pain became unbearable. I ended up passing out twice (I've never done this). I'm thinking it was due to the pain. I truly thought I was dying. When I woke up the 2nd time I spit up two batches of yucky saliva.

I'm waiting for it to be 8:00am to call my Dr. I'm affraid to drink anything or even swallow. I sat up most of the night in my recliner with a heating pad. I've had some pain since, but only short waves. Has this happened to anyone else??

I talked with the bariatric nurse. She thinks the new fill plus laying down put pressure on a nerve in my stomach, and this is what caused the severe pain. The Dr said he would do an unfill if I wanted one, but the nurse encouraged me to wait and see. I've been drinking liquids all day, and can feel them gurgling through my stomach so know I'm not blocked up or anything. I layed down this afternoon for a nap, and no pain, so hopefully all is well.

I hadn't heard that nerves in the stomach could do this. Felt like I was being stabbed and it wouldn't stop. It was almost like a near death experience due to the things that flashed through my mind. I wonder if anyone else has had this stomach nerve pain issue? I'm also worried if this is a sign possible errosion. :phanvan

Put it out on the general board and see if you don't get more replies. I wouldn't start worrying about erosion just yet since the nurse seemed to think it was a nerve.

I've never heard of it but the band is a little weird sometimes. I'd say trust your doctor on this and see how it goes. I'd doubt it's erosion.

I talked to my bariatric nurse again today about my scarey incident. Besides the possible irritation of a stomach nerve from the fill, the pain/passing out could have been caused by my taking Nyquil just before going to bed and it just sitting in my pouch. She recommended flushing out my pouch with a glass of Water if I take Nyquil again at night. I wanted to mention this as a warning.....Don't take Nyquil and go directly to sleep sleep.gif . It could cause faint.gif . I'm feeling much better now, and full on just liquids again clap2.gif .

OMG!!! This is my first visit to a lap band discussion forum and it's scaring the crap outta me! *lol* I'm just a few weeks away from surgery and now I'm freaking out. I don't have to jump through all the hoops because my insurance doesn't pay for the proceedure. I'm a self pay, so they basically have you do the psych eval, 2 week diet and then surgery. My psych eval is tomorrow. I guess it's good that I'm hearing all this stuff now instead of being surprised afterwards......

Another thing that has me freaking out is so many mentions of gas. I can't be dealing with that, dudes and dudettes. I teach 5 hr classes!!! Somebody give me some positive feedback here.

I'm just over a month post-op and I don't have a gas problem anymore. There were some times that I had to excuse myself from public places but most of that was the flu I got 2-weeks post-op that lasted over a week, I think. I'm feeling really good now that I'm finally on solid food and I feel totally healed and recovered from the surgery. I went back to work on day 5, which was probably a bit too soon. And the day after surgery my father was diagnosed with colon cancer and I spent a lot of time at the hospital and going to doctors, etc. So it may have taken me longer to recover but, even so, it just wasn't that bad. I did keep Gas-X strips handy and used those A LOT!

Sure, there is a recovery period and some uncomfortable times but as far as I'm concerned (at this point, anyway), I'm REALLY happy to have it behind me and VERY excited about my new life. It was definitely worth it if I have success at all.

Good luck!

Don't let my little episode scare you. As you can see by lack of people saying "yah this happened to me too", it was very out of the ordinary. And in hind sight, it wasn't so bad. I was mainly scared because I didn't know what was happening to me. People pass out all the time...it was a first for me though. I'm feeling wonderful. I haven't had any more pain at all, and haven't PB'd or thrown up ever. My fill has helped decrease volume of my food intake again, and I measured today and have lost 20 inches! The gas is annoying but walking and Gas x helps post-op, plus I take BeanO now with every meal, which really helps. I was very nervous and an emotional mess pre-surgery too. I woke up from surgery with this huge sense of relief and happiness. It was like....finally.....I have the tool I need to be successful at obtaining my life-long goal. Best wishes, you'll be fine!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
