What are the primary causes of slipping bands?

Recommended Posts

Hi All -

I have been reading a lot on here about band slippage and was wondering what are some of the primary causes and symptoms? I was banded about 9 weeks ago and have found that at this point I can eat just about anything...don't get me wrong there are some limitations and I can't pig out like the old days, but I am definitely not as limited as I was in the beginning and weight loss has slowed. Is this normal...am I just ready for a fill? Or is my ability to eat a sign of a slipped band?

PS. Did I mention that I am a worrier :nervous

I too worry about slippage, because I can still eat quite a bit (I was banded in June). . . but I"ve had four fills and I can tell you true--each one helps a LOT. I think you just need a fill! And it is amazing, when I really think about it, how much I don't eat.

Fills are amazing helps. Really.:bandit

PS I've been off this forum so long I've forgotten how to fix my signature to put my 4th fill on! When school is out. . .I'm back!

Deb,

Just go to User CP on top and go to edit signature. I just did mine last night. At first it wouldn't take my changes, maybe because of all the work being done on the page I don't know. Then all of a sudden WAA LAA! It worked!

The primary cause of slippage is trying to live with a band that is too tight.

Symptoms seem to be either/or.....either you suddenly have no restriction, or you can't swallow spit.

i seem to have a slipped band--and i have, well--some of both symptoms--all of sudden==the severe restriction was gone--but there are some issues with swallowing food still--it's not like i can eat anything--the way i could before i had a fill.

i had to go for an endoscopy last week--and the dr. said it is slipped--but i don't remember if he said the band moved up or down --figure i'll hear it all from the surgeon-when i see him on may 1. in the meantime--sticking to a careful diet--with lots of liquids and mushy food--and some solids--but...being very careful.

i'm sure i'm headed for surgery again. :) oh well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
