I just had my surgery on Friday and I've not been sleeping well. When will I be able to sleep on my stomach? Right now I'm sleeping on my back propped up with a pillow but it's not exactly good sleep. But sleeping on my stomach or even side hurts and bleeds a bit. I'm trying to do what's best, I just want some sleep.

It got a little better for me each day, but I think it was around two weeks when I didn't have discomfort turning over. It was sore for quite a while, but I still slept on my stomach right away. Now I don't even notice my port when lying down. I'm almost three months post op.

I get reflux if I happen to get on my stomach while asleep. but a month or 2 after surgery I was able to sleep over on my tummy. just keep trying and one night you will do it.

I'm almost three weeks post-op and was really uncomfortable for the first two weeks, had to sleep propped up in a nest of pillows. I am now sleeping flat on my side with little discomfort.

ugh! this was the worst for me! i couldnt sleep on my stomach, and not even my sides, because i felt like the port was tugging on my stomach. and thats the only way i can fall asleep!

i talked to my nurse practitioner, and she recommended Ibuprofen PM. After about 2 weeks, i was able to lay on my side, and some on my stomach, but if i moved the wrong way, it would shoot a little twinge to the area. even at almost 5 weeks post-op, after a long day, or if i worked out too hard, its still a little sore to lay on. I would def try the ibuprofen pm, tho.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
