Pre-Op diet CONSTIPATION : ( & I LUV logging into MyFitnessPal

Recommended Posts

HELLO FRIENDS,

I had met with my Nutritionist and have one more appt before paper work is submitted to Ins. I started logging my meals into MyFitnessPal which by the way is under (losingmyweight) I would love to have you as an encouragement friend. Can I just say WHOA had no idea I was consuming so much FAT!!! The Nutrition person set me at 1,800 calories and 90 grams of protein! I have been doing a detox as I really just wanted to get my body ready to receive weight loss. I AM SO CONSTIPATED and dont want to take laxatives. Is there a healthy ORGANIC remedy I can take that you would recommend????

I get my EGD in the morning to see if I have a hernia... which I believe I do and the surgeon said he would repair during surgery

I gave up caffeine for my detox and lets just say I have had a major headache even thou I only drink one cup in the morning. Shhhhhhh dont tell anyone I had a cup today because I woke up feeling so bad.

QUESTION: If you drank caffeine (I dont drink soda just coffee) did you wein yourself off BEFORE the surgery and what seemed to help you during the transition?????

Love.... Cindy

Start with a (tmi) stool softener, I also had problems with the diet. So one in am and pm and all is good.

Since you are still eating regular food, you could try an apple at bedtime.

Also, even though it has carbs and calories, you could try prune juice at bedtime. That's a little hard for me to drink, so I dilute it with warm Water and throw one sweetener in it.

Another natural thing that has worked for me is Smooth Move Herbal Teas. I bought several flavors online. My favorite is the chocolate. Go figure - a chocolate tea bag. Then I take my hot chocolate flavored smooth move tea and put a packet of sugar free cocoa mix in it. All of these are great at bedtime. Then when you wake up in the morning, you should be ready to get a move on!

A lot of people use organic Smooth Move tea for Constipation and swear by it.I would also say just get as much Fiber in your diet naturally as you can -- apples, Beans, prunes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, artichoke hearts, avocadoes, etc. Chobani Simply 100 Greek yogurt is all natural and has 5 grams of fiber per serving. A chewable probiotic is also not a bad idea.

I weaned myself off of coffee before surgery because I didn't want to be dealing with caffeine withdrawal at the same time I was recovering from major surgery. I am so glad I am back to having my morning coffee now!

I weaned myself off coffee ahead of time by following my Nut's advice. Whatever your normal amount of coffee is, cut it in half and limit yourself to that for 1-2 weeks. Then cut it in half again... and again. It took me about 6 weeks to get away from caffeine completely, but no headaches or feeling bad!!

Good luck!

A couple of things......

First, congrats on your upcoming surgery! My username on myfitnesspal is livvsmum. I've logged my foods and exercise religiously on there for nearly 200 days now, so feel free to add me. :-)

Secondly, I would start weaning off the caffeine now. I did not and it was TOUGH going through caffeine withdraw, sugar withdraw, carb withdraw, and recovering from surgery all at once. I would recommend doing as much as possible ahead of time.

Thirdly, I developed some Constipation issues too after surgery. I little milk of magnesium does the trick for me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
