II don't know if I can encourage you, but I can definitely comiserate with you. I am five months out and down 57 pounds, but have been on a plateau at 178 for many weeks. Seems like it doesn't matter if I exercise or not, or eat 700 calories or 1,000. Nothing is changing. I am at 80 grams of Protein, less than 30 carbs, and 80 ounces of Water. I wonder what is going on.

Before the surgery, I lost 50 pounds several times and then reached this point and the weight went back up. The only encouragement I have for ourselves right now is that at some point soon, somethings got to give and the weight will break and go down some more. My team says I am doing everything right and that is is common to lose a lot quickly, then our body must level out and adjust. I am quite through with all of this adjusting. The next phase needs to come to the front door and get me soon. I am ready to rock and roll with the next 50 pounds. Geeze Louize already! I wish you good luck and good health.

If I get the math right, you're down 67 lbs in 6 months. That's about where I was at 6 months. I too felt like I wasn't losing fast enough, but I try to remind myself of where I was pre-op - when I wasn't losing any weight and fighting a losing battle to keep from gaining.

I tried to be happy that I was losing - at any speed. But it can be a real downer when you see so many dropping 20+ lbs month after month. But I realized:

1. Depending on your surgeon, you may have bigger or smaller stomach than someone else.

2. Fast losers don't always detail what they are doing to lose weight fast. All we see is the weight loss. They may be doing way more than I am willing to do to drop the weight - intense workouts or running marathons for all I know.

3. Everyone's metabolism is different. I take it as a given, that a 30 year old is going to lose weight faster than me (at 47). I've led a sedentary life for years, so my metabolism has slowed accordingly.

4. Diet is going to be the biggest factor in my weight loss. If I eat bad carbs and salt, I am going to hang onto the weight. If I stick to good carbs and Protein, I drop weight faster.

So I try to keep a positive outlook and have a long term view of my weight loss. Even if I only lose 1/2 lb a week, that's 24 lbs a year. That's far more than I was losing pre-surgery.

Here's to your success.

265 SW - 198 CW - not getting motivated feeling depress & in panic

@@jack35

there is an old, but true expression on this board (some people might be sick of hearing it :o)

"the one thing we have in common is that we're all different!!!"

"they" say losing 10 lbs a month PO is average/good :)

you've lost 67 lbs :)in 6 months - woo hoo!!!!

OMG that IS something to be proud of :)

you can look, but take no mind how much or little others are losing, in what time period etc.

only think of yourself with positive vibes around you :)

not sure about you, but when i was sad and depressesd in my "past" life i would eat, and eat, and eat some more

chin pointed upward :)

easier said than done sometimes

keep eating and drinking as you've been told, i'm sure you are doing that :)

things will continue to go upwards, or "down" whichever way you look at it ;)

good luck

kathy

I understand how you feel. I met a lady at my surgeons office that lost 120 pounds in 8 months. That's how I expected this to go but now I don't see it happening.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
