Has this happened to anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 18 months ago and am at my goal. Everything has been going fine but I started having a lot of trouble eating, vomitting, really bad gastric reflux and lost more weight.

My surgeon gave me a gastroscopy and said my sleeve had moved up and I need more surgery. So confused right now and not looking forward to more surgery.

Help!!!

I didn't know a sleeve could move? Can you elaborate?

Not really, that's what the surgeon said when I came out of the theatre. I was hoping someone on here knew more.

I've seen threads about this but I didn't have the sleeve personally. Do a search of the forums and you'll find it! (Sorry I couldn't be of more help)

What type of surgery is he proposing? I don't know what "moved up" means. I think that a sleeved stomach can twist, can get strictures, and can have an intussusception (usually the bowel) meaning it telescopes into itself. Any of these might be considered an obstruction, causing the symptoms you describe. I'm sure there's a host of other things "moved up" might mean. I think it would be a great idea to call the surgeon and get some specifics so you can know what's going on. Either way, hope you feel better soon!

Maybe you have a hiatal hernia and the stomach is "moving up" into the chest cavity through the hernia. Just a guess.

Certainly have never heard of this complication, especially at 18 months when we generally think all is well, right? This must be really scary for you. Further to MichiganChic and swimbikerun--You DESERVE to know exactly what is going on with your body in terms that you can understand. It is your physician's responsibility to deliver that explanation to you and your responsibility to demand it. Sometimes that's hard to do when you're feeling so sick, so if you need to, please find someone who can be your advocate to help you through this and get your answers.

Please take care and let us know how you are doing.

Ha!

Mine didn't feel like he owed me an explanation. "*I DID* what *I* thought was right".

Did you hear anything about me the patient in there? That's why I say investigate the heck out of the doctor.

Yes, please do. I am really curious as to what he meant. Make sure you get it to explain it to you so that you understand. So many doctors talk to me as though I'm a medical professionals too, and I have to stop them and say please explain it in way that I will understand.

I am anxious to find out what he says will cause you to have another surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
