AussieLady 521 Posted June 9, 2014 I had surgery 18 months ago and am at my goal. Everything has been going fine but I started having a lot of trouble eating, vomitting, really bad gastric reflux and lost more weight. My surgeon gave me a gastroscopy and said my sleeve had moved up and I need more surgery. So confused right now and not looking forward to more surgery. Help!!! Jersrose43 837 Posted June 9, 2014 I didn't know a sleeve could move? Can you elaborate?
AussieLady 521 Posted June 9, 2014 Not really, that's what the surgeon said when I came out of the theatre. I was hoping someone on here knew more.
ladykatie_ 117 Posted June 9, 2014 I've seen threads about this but I didn't have the sleeve personally. Do a search of the forums and you'll find it! (Sorry I couldn't be of more help)
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted June 9, 2014 What type of surgery is he proposing? I don't know what "moved up" means. I think that a sleeved stomach can twist, can get strictures, and can have an intussusception (usually the bowel) meaning it telescopes into itself. Any of these might be considered an obstruction, causing the symptoms you describe. I'm sure there's a host of other things "moved up" might mean. I think it would be a great idea to call the surgeon and get some specifics so you can know what's going on. Either way, hope you feel better soon! 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
lark60 431 Posted June 9, 2014 Maybe you have a hiatal hernia and the stomach is "moving up" into the chest cavity through the hernia. Just a guess. 1 Georgia reacted to this
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted June 10, 2014 Yes get him or her to tell you what is going on in a way it can be understood. That makes no sense. 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
LivingFree! 478 Posted June 10, 2014 Certainly have never heard of this complication, especially at 18 months when we generally think all is well, right? This must be really scary for you. Further to MichiganChic and swimbikerun--You DESERVE to know exactly what is going on with your body in terms that you can understand. It is your physician's responsibility to deliver that explanation to you and your responsibility to demand it. Sometimes that's hard to do when you're feeling so sick, so if you need to, please find someone who can be your advocate to help you through this and get your answers. Please take care and let us know how you are doing. 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted June 10, 2014 Ha! Mine didn't feel like he owed me an explanation. "*I DID* what *I* thought was right". Did you hear anything about me the patient in there? That's why I say investigate the heck out of the doctor. 2 DarbiMolly and BeagleLover reacted to this
AussieLady 521 Posted June 12, 2014 Thanks for your input everyone. I am having further investigation before further surgery so I will update when I have all the answers. 1 Georgia reacted to this
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted June 14, 2014 Yes, please do. I am really curious as to what he meant. Make sure you get it to explain it to you so that you understand. So many doctors talk to me as though I'm a medical professionals too, and I have to stop them and say please explain it in way that I will understand. I am anxious to find out what he says will cause you to have another surgery.
