travelling after surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

My VSG is on the 13th of June. I'm really excited and nervous but i have to travel a 3 hour flight 11 days post-op.

Any tips or ideas on how that will work out for me? I kinda have to go because otherwise i won't have my parents around.

I would make sure you get up and move a lot. The main thing is not getting any blood clots. Under normal circumstances I don't think you can fly for 3 or 4 weeks after. Good luck!!!

at 11 days you should be fine. If you want to take precautions, keep very well hydrated, walk around the plane at least once an hour and you can even wear compression stockings. But at 11 days post op DVT isnt much of an issue

I flew home 3 days after surgery in TJ. My flight was only 2 hours, but I wore the compression stockings my surgeon sent me home with. I also had to drive 5 hours after landing and I stopped several times to get out and walk around. He suggested that patients with longer flights should get up and walk the aisles as much as possible. There was one gal in our group that was going to be flying 12 hours that day (with two layovers).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
