rnsamantha 352 Posted April 6, 2015 I have told my husband, my little sister and my mom. I haven't shared it with all my siblings or in laws because I'm not sure what they're reaction will be. I have two very fit sisters who I think would just tell me I need to be more disciplined and exercise. They have both lost weight, but did not start out 100 lbs overweight either. I'm not going to lie to them after the fact, but I would rather avoid having others try to convince me not to have a weight loss surgery.
Califlower83 33 Posted April 7, 2015 I feel like i had a very strategic plan to who I would tell and when. I told one of my best friends who had gastric bypass about 8 years ago and she was excited for me and super supportive, then I told a few more friend and some co-workers. I wasn't going to tell my family because some of them have a tendency to support one minute then have nothing but negativity the next, and that's basically what happened. Comments like "Good for you but you know you can't reverse it", "you're going to have so much extra skin", or "you're never going to be able to eat what you want" and so on. With the exception of my boss I haven't told anyone else because my decision is made and I don't want to be upset with people not being supportive. Like @@rnsamantha I don't plan to lie about it once it's done I just don't need people getting in my head or on my nerves!
RealRocknRollaVSG 13 Posted April 12, 2015 I told my parents, best friend, and boss, who are all very supportive. When I would casually slide WLS into a conversation, everyone else would speak to WLS as if it were a cop out. "You just need to move more", or "just eat less", or "you must not want it enough". To be honest, I had the same mentality a year ago--before I got totally fed up and educated. Anyway, GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! It's going be a fantastic journey for sure, and the ones who support you and get to witness your transformation and get to be a part of it all are the lucky ones
