I have told my husband, my little sister and my mom. I haven't shared it with all my siblings or in laws because I'm not sure what they're reaction will be. I have two very fit sisters who I think would just tell me I need to be more disciplined and exercise. They have both lost weight, but did not start out 100 lbs overweight either. I'm not going to lie to them after the fact, but I would rather avoid having others try to convince me not to have a weight loss surgery.

I feel like i had a very strategic plan to who I would tell and when. I told one of my best friends who had gastric bypass about 8 years ago and she was excited for me and super supportive, then I told a few more friend and some co-workers. I wasn't going to tell my family because some of them have a tendency to support one minute then have nothing but negativity the next, and that's basically what happened. Comments like "Good for you but you know you can't reverse it", "you're going to have so much extra skin", or "you're never going to be able to eat what you want" and so on. With the exception of my boss I haven't told anyone else because my decision is made and I don't want to be upset with people not being supportive. Like @@rnsamantha I don't plan to lie about it once it's done I just don't need people getting in my head or on my nerves!

I told my parents, best friend, and boss, who are all very supportive. When I would casually slide WLS into a conversation, everyone else would speak to WLS as if it were a cop out. "You just need to move more", or "just eat less", or "you must not want it enough". To be honest, I had the same mentality a year ago--before I got totally fed up and educated.

Anyway, GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! It's going be a fantastic journey for sure, and the ones who support you and get to witness your transformation and get to be a part of it all are the lucky ones :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
